To mark the 150th anniversary of the Foundation Det Norske Veritas (DNV) and the one year anniversary of its merger with Germanischer Lloyd (GL), DNV GL says events attended by dignitaries, government officials and customers have been held in Oslo.

Over 1000 guests gathered in Oslo to celebrate DNV’s 150th anniversary and DNV GL’s first year as a merged company. The event started at the Oslo Opera House, followed by an evening dinner at DNV GL’s headquarters in Høvik.

The event was opened by Henrik O. Madsen, President & CEO of the DNV GL Group. “Today we celebrate, but it is also a moment to reflect and thank our partners and friends all over the world, who have been on the long journey together with us. Without their support we would not be where we are today,” said Madsen and added, “As we move forward, we will leverage on the experience, capabilities and collaborations developed over the years and be guided and defined by our purpose of safeguarding life, property and the environment and our vision to have a global impact for a safe and sustainable future.”

In her remarks at the dinner event, Erna Solberg, the Norwegian Prime Minister said “Today we’re celebrating a proud history of safety and sustainability. DNV has played a critical role in the development of key Norwegian industries, and is particularly well known for its work in the shipping industry. And this celebration also marks a new era of the merged company DNV GL, which is far more than a maritime company. It is a leading organization  in many of the industries it serves, and is an example for the nation. Thank you for your important contribution to the Norwegian society.”

Chairman of the DNV GL Board Leif-Arne Langøy commented, “It’s a very special occasion. We’re celebrating the 150th anniversary of the formation of DNV and the first anniversary of the DNV GL Group. Building trust has been at the heart of this company over the years. Trust is our business rationale. As society pushes for a safe and sustainable future, there is a need for institutions like DNV GL – institutions that develop recognized standards and build trust. Created from two highly respected companies with parallel histories spanning 150 years, DNV GL now provides an even broader view, enabling customers to make the world safer, smarter and greener."
