Transas to Supply Simulator for Brazilian Waterways Training Center

Transas USA has been selected to supply full mission Navigational and Dynamic Positioning Simulator systems to the Waterways Training Center, located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Brazilian Merchant Marine Officers Union (SINDMAR) are working closely together to provide what will be the most important training center for the maritime community in Latin America. Located in Rio de Janeiro, downtown, at SINDMAR’s head office, this training center boasts a location close to Naval and Oil Industry facilities. A set of simulation systems that allow for a range of maritime training will be implemented in a phased approach, beginning with a Class A full mission navigational bridge simulator, integrated with secondary visual bridges and equipped with Class 2 Dynamic Positioning (DP2) systems. The bridge layout is specifically designed to mimic the environment of vessels operating in the Brazilian offshore oil industry, including fully integrated DP2 stations in both forward and aft facing control consoles. Visualization is provided for almost a complete 360 degree view around the horizon, with extended vertical field of view in the critical rear conning position, making it ideal for offshore supply, anchor handling, and towing operations training scenarios. In line with Transas simulations ‘total ship concept’, a Transas PISCES2 spill and incident management simulator will be interfaced with the navigational simulators as part of phase one, as well as Engineering, Liquid Cargo, Vessel Traffic, and marine Terminal simulation in future phases. Each simulator can be operated independently or integrated via a common interface on a unified simulator network, offering obvious training and commercial benefits and an ability to achieve the highest level of training realism.
