AVEVA has released new enhancements to its AVEVA Bocad product range for structural steel detailing software.

AVEVA Bocad features a plate and bar nesting capability for more efficient planning and use of materials, the developer said. An enhanced weld numbering and traceability feature provides efficient increased fabrication efficiency, design quality assurance and improved structural integrity maintenance. In addition, elements of AVEVA Bocad can now be brought into AVEVA Marine production tools to fabricate detailed ship and offshore designs.

According to AVEVA, the new nesting engine within AVEVA Bocad further increases efficiency in materials usage. Not only does it accurately manage materials measurement and reduce wastage of costly raw material by enabling more parts to be cut per ton of steel, it also enables more efficient procurement and scheduling.

The latest enhancement to weld numbering and traceability further facilitates regulatory compliance and enables more effective structural life cycle management. Applying unique identifiers to welds provides better traceability and the ability to identify a specific weld in a structure. This enables verification that the weld has been correctly specified in the detailed designed model and fabricated in accordance with the model. Digital weld data can be output direct from the design model to automatic welding robots for greater production efficiency and quality. Comprehensive reporting capabilities support design assurance.

The introduction of bulb bar (Holland Profiles) catalogues and the ability to bring AVEVA Bocad elements into AVEVA Marine production tools. This means that Marine customers can use the already powerful production engineering capabilities of AVEVA Marine to also fabricate the complex detailed steel constructions designed with AVEVA Bocad Steel.

This capability will enable our customer’s shipyards to optimize their material and production handling processes for their main Hull and offshore structures by managing and controlling parts in both AVEVA Bocad and AVEVA Hull detailed design within the same unified production stream.
