USCG, Lake Carriers' Association Ink Training Agreement
A new agreement sets forth terms for maritime industry rescue training between U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Traverse City, Mich., U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit and Lake Carriers' Association (LCA) enrolled vessels. The memorandum of agreement was signed Tuesday at the 9th Coast Guard District headquarters in Cleveland by Rear Adm. Joanna M. Nunan, commander, 9th Coast Guard District, and James H.I. Weakley, president of the LCA.
Crowley Vessel Enters US Mainland-Puerto Rico Trade
Crowley Maritime Corp. said it has retrofitted two of its heavy lift, flat-deck barges, 455-3 and Marty J, to provide additional capacity to customers shipping cargo between the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico. With the 455-3 sailing early Tuesday morning from the Port of Jacksonville, Crowley has now expanded its fleet from nine to 16 vessels, further increasing U.S. flag capacity to transport commercial and relief supplies to support the island’s recovery after Hurricane Maria in late September.

Harley's New ATB Completes Sea Trials
Harley Marine Services’ new tug OneCURE and the 80,000BBL, double hull, oceangoing barge Edward Itta have completed sea trials as combined articulated barge unit (ATB) on October 26, and the vessels have been accepted for delivery. The vessel trials, performed by Conrad Shipyard 10 miles south of Port Fourchon, included crash stops at various speeds, basic and high-speed maneuvering, systems monitoring and tests of main engine steering.
BMT Bags Contracts from Samsung Heavy Industries
BMT Group’s fleet and vessel performance management company BMT SMART said it has secured a contract with shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) to supply vessel performance monitoring systems for four very large crude carriers (VLCC) being built for a Greek ship owner. This latest contract comes on the back of current orders already received from SHI for seven vessels (Suezmax and Aframax tankers) for Norwegian and Singapore owners, BMT said.
Type Approval for Uprated MAN L51/60DF
MAN Diesel & Turbo said its dual-fuel MAN L51/60DF engine has passed its Type Approval Test (TAT), which ran from October 17 to 20 at the company’s Augsburg works in Germany, in front of the industry’s main classification societies.
