MV Rosalia D’Amato Pirated in Indian Ocean
Early morning on 21 April, the Bulk Carrier MV Rosalia D’Amato was pirated approximately 350NM South East of Salalah, Oman, in the Indian Ocean. The 74,500 tonne Italian flagged and owned vessel was on its way to Bandar Imam Khomeini (Iran) from Paranagua (Brazil) when it was attacked by a single skiff. Coalition warships had communications with the vessel and were told: ‘pirates onboard stay away’. The MV Rosalia D’Amato has a crew of 21 (six Italians, 15 Filipinos).

Diamond Offshore Announces First Quarter 2011 Results
HOUSTON, Apr 21, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. (NYSE:DO) today reported net income for the first quarter of 2011 of $250.6 million, or $1.80 per share on a diluted basis, compared with net income of $290.9 million, or $2.09 per share on a diluted basis, in the same period a year earlier. Revenues in the first quarter of 2011 were $806.4 million, compared with revenues of $859.7 million for the first quarter of 2010.
Charleston Container Volume Up 12%
Charleston, SC – Container shipping volume through the Port of Charleston increased nearly 12 percent in the first three quarters of the fiscal year, and the state’s breakbulk tonnage increased 48 percent, even as the pace of volume gains has slowed. In the July to March period, container traffic increased 11.6 percent to 1,033,062 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up from 925,837 TEUs in the same period last year. March volume alone was 120,265 TEUs, up 5.7 percent from March 2010.
