Norwegian Authority Objects Eimskip's Acquisition of Nor Lines
The Norwegian Competition Authority has today given a notice of an objection to Eimskip’s acquisition of the Norwegian shipping and logistics company Nor Lines AS. The notice reflects the Authority's preliminary conclusion, and Eimskip has 15 business days to present counterarguments. A final decision will be made by the Authority after another 15 business days. Eimskip is evaluating next steps with its legal advisors.
SM Line's Maiden Voyage Next Month
The new container carrier SM Line, owned by South Korean Samra Midas (SM) Group, will launch its first service in the second week of March. The shipper which took over Hanjin's service network between Asia and the US, will also take over several of Hanjin's terminals in South Korea. According to a report in Pulse, it will set sail on its maiden voyage on March 8 along the East and South China Sea with 1,000 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) container onboard.

ECSA Takes Stand in GHG Emissions of Shipping
European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) regrets that European port and cargo interests have come out in favour of the European Parliament’s position to conditionally include shipping in the EU Emission Trading Scheme as of 2023 if the International Maritime Organisation does not have a comparable system operating by 2021. European port and freight forwarder associations did confirm that a global agreement is their preferred option to curb greenhouse gas emissions of ships.

HMAS Melbourne has celebrated 25 years since she entered service with the Royal Australian Navy, proving her motto, ‘She gathers strength as she goes’.
