Australia Strengthens Naval Ties with Mynamar (Burma)
The Australian Government informs it has re-established a resident Defence Attaché office in Burma with the arrival in Rangoon of Royal Australian Navy (RAN) Captain Jon Dudley who will fill the post left vacant since 1979. The appointment coincides with the arrival at the Port of Rangoon of a RAN Armidale-Class patrol boat, 'HMAS Childers', the first such visit by an Australian warship to Burma for about 50 years.
Swedish Ferry Avoids Traffic Snarl-ups with Cavotec RRC's
Cavotec says it has supplied an integrated system of radio remote control (RRC) units for a new ferry, 'Braheborg', on the Gränna-Visingsö service. The system will operate 8 lanes of traffic lights, a road barrier and hydraulic road decks on the Swedish car ferry. The ferry service links the island of Visingsö to the mainland at the town of Gränna in central southern Sweden, with some forty sailings daily.
Miami Harbor Dredging: GLDD Receives Further US$51.9-million
Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD), says it has received the payment from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Jacksonville District which will bring the total value of GLDDās Miami contract up to $174.1 million. There is $31.6 million remaining to be awarded under the current plan of the Corps. This option, which is the first of two options for the project, covers the dredging of Fisherman's Channel and Lummus Island Turning Basin, as well as dredging the adjacent berthing areas.

Crew Rescued from Sinking Bulk Carrier
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) reported that 24 crewmembers are safe after abandoning ship approximately 440 miles west of Guam Monday. At 8 a.m. Sunday, watchstanders at the USCG Sector Guam Command Center received report of flooding from the 500-foot bulk carrier cargo ship Rich Forest. The ship, carrying logs enroute to China, experienced flooding in the engine room and subsequent loss of propulsion.
