ABB Wins $25m Order for Two Russian Icebreakers
ABB, a power and automation technology group, has won an order worth around $25 million to supply its marine propulsion system, Azipod, and complete electric power plants for two new rescue and salvage icebreakers that are under construction at Nordic Yards GmbH in Germany. The new vessels, owned by Russia’s State Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (SMRCC), will be used for patrols and rescue operations in offshore oil-and-gas fields.
Shipowners Call for Sustainable Regulation
The global trade association for the shipping industry, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), has called for all future proposals for environmental regulation that impact on ships to be subjected to a full and proper cost benefit analysis before adoption by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). ICS has set out how the shipping industry supports the goals for sustainable development agreed by world leaders at last year’s United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development.
Liebherr Wins Significant Ship Crane Order
Liebherr reports that there has been a positive trend in the heavy lift crane segement, a sentiment confirmed by a number of significant contracts recorded of late, including a contract for the delivery of six heavy lift ship cranes for the German shipping company Rickmers. Four of the heavy lift cranes are type CBB 4700 with a lifting capacity of 450 tons and the remaining two are type CBB 3450 with a lifting capacity of 120 tons.
