New Ship Repair Yard for Zayed Port
Abu Dhabi Ports and Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) have signed a long term contract that when fully realized will see a fully operational ship repair facility that will also include a floating dock capability within Zayed Port. New Gyro Compass to Debut at SMM
German navigation system manufacturer Raytheon Anschütz said it will launch a new gyro compass at this yearās SMM exhibition in Hamburg. The new gyro, Standard 30 MF, is the latest of the renowned āStandardā series of Anschütz gyro compasses. Standard 30 MF is the second generation of maintenance-free gyro compasses from Raytheon Anschütz. It provides highly accurate heading, rate-of-turn, roll and pitch information, the manufacturer said.
MN100: Massachusetts Maritime Academy
Massachusetts Maritime Academy offers seven undergraduate Bachelor of Science degrees and two graduate Masters of Science programs. The regiment of cadets is comprised of students from around the globe. The academy operates a training vessel used to acquire sea service for the cadets. Two tugs (Alert and Hercules) and a barge support the Mate of Towing program. The Academy has a vast array of simulators used for undergraduate and professional mariner training.

1822 - USS Grampus investigates and pursues a brig flying Spanish colors. When called upon to surrender, the privateer brig Palmyra from Puerto Rico fires cannon and musket fire. USS Grampus fires back on Palmyras broadsides reducing Palmyras rigging to a complete wreck, killing one and wounding six. The brig surrenders with a crew of 88, one long 18-pounder gun and eight 18-pound carronades. Her officers acknowledge they had robbed the American schooner USS Coquette.
