USCG Rescues 164 Migrants in a Week
The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) rescued 64 Cuban migrants and 100 Haitian migrants during a busy week of illegal maritime migration attempts from Cuba and Haiti into the United States. Long Beach Imports Flat, Exports Dip
Total cargo container numbers rose 3.7 percent in July at the Port of Long Beach compared to the same month last year, making for the Southern California seaport’s busiest July since 2010. A total of 583,060 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) were moved through Long Beach in July. Of these, 297,615 TEUs were imports, which rose slightly by 0.9 percent. Exports declined 6.2 percent to 124,126 TEUs. Empty containers escalated 19.5 percent to 161,319 TEUs.
Port of LA Container Volumes Up 7.75% YTD
The Port of Los Angeles has released its July 2014 containerized cargo volumes. In July 2014, overall volumes increased 0.25 percent compared to July 2013. Total cargo for July was 717,407.00 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). Container imports dropped 1.98 percent, from 370,745.55 TEUs in July 2013 to 363,393.50 TEUs in July 2014. Exports rose 3.62 percent, from 157,585.50 TEUs in July 2013 to 163,294.50 TEUs in July 2014.
