A partnership including Calgary-based Ferus Natural Gas Fuels has unveilled plans to build in Florida the first U.S. terminal to supply liquefied natural gas as fuel for cargo ships, reports 'The Calgary Herald'. The Eagle LNG partnership was announced in September 2013, and includes Ferus, General Electric Co. and Clean Energy Fuels Corp., the transportation-fuel company co-founded by billionare investor T. General Dynamics Bath Iron Works has launched the Navy's first Zumwalt-class destroyer at their Bath, Maine shipyard. The future 'USS Zumwalt' (DDG 1000) will be the lead ship of the Navy's newest destroyer class, designed for littoral operations and land attack. The ship began its translation from Bath Iron Works' land-level construction facility to a floating dry dock, which was flooded and the ship was removed from its specially designed cradle.

In Q2 2013, the weather in the Pacific Ocean was stable, allowing the on time performance of Asia-USWC services to resume to over 90%. An even higher level of performance was expected, but was not achieved due to the impact on vessels by a labor strike in Hong Kong. Asia-USEC services performance maintained a similar level as was achieved in Q1 2013, while the major factor contributing to the low on time performance was terminal congestion in Algeciras.

Kiel Canal Remains Closed
The Kiel Canal remains closed due to prevailing adverse weather and the instability of a damaged vessel involved in a collision yesterday, October 28. Salvage works are currently underway. As the damaged vessel has not yet been stabilized sufficiently and bunker oil is penetrating into the Kiel Canal waters, the Canal Authority has decided to maintain the closure for another 24 hours until at least midday tomorrow, October 30. gac.com
