Offshore Wind Turbine Access System Trial Completed
Houlder & BMT Nigel Gee announce that their jointly developed Turbine Access System (TAS) has successfully completed offshore trials. The TAS was fitted to Turbine Transfers’ 24m Cemlyn Bay for a four week trials period at RWE’s Rhyl Flats offshore windfarm off the coast of Wales. The TAS is a lightweight motion compensated gangway that provides substantially improved access to offshore wind turbines for maintenance personnel.

'Joint Warrior', a two-week exercise, designed and led by the Joint Tactical Exercise Planning Staff (JTEPS) in the UK has begun. 'Joint Warrior' is the largest military exercise in Europe and began off the coast of Scotland, Oct. 1, 2012. "The exercise is designed to test the skill, knowledge and equipment of the participants in a range of different environments," said Capt. Paul Titterton, director of JTEPS.

A Sea Smooth ferry collided with & sank the 'Lamma lV in Hong Kong waters. More than 120 passengers and crew were on the Lamma IV, owned by the Hong Kong Electric Company, heading to watch a huge National Day fireworks display in Victoria Harbour when the collision occurred just off Lamma, an island to the west of Hong Kong. The stricken Sea Smooth ferry limped to Lamma where its shaken but relatively unharmed passengers disembarked before it took on too much water from a hole in the hull.
