Rolls-Royce announce the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved its C-class engine for sale in the U.S. market. The C-class is a state-of-the art marine gas engine designed to improve fuel efficiency, dramatically cut harmful methane emissions and meet strict international environmental standards set to take effect in 2016. The EPA Certificate of Conformity is issued for the C-engine range from Rolls-Royce.

The very first MAN Diesel & Turbo TCA77 turbocharger installed aboard āJo Sequoiaā nears 50,000 hours trouble-free operation. The chemical tanker 'Jo Seuoia' is powered by a MAN B&W 7S50MC-C two-stroke engine, having been built about ten years ago for Bergen-based Jo Tankers. During its construction, and with Jo Tankers already having chosen an MAN B&W 7S50MC-C engine as prime mover, MAN Diesel & Turbo approached Jo Tankers in regard to installing its then-new TCA77 turbocharger.

The authors of a recent research paper, Dr Ian Galbally from CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research, and the Australian Maritime Collegeās Dr Laurie Goldsworthy estimate that approximately 30 per cent of anthropogenic nitrogen oxide emissions and 20 per cent of oxides of sulphur emissions generated in the Australian region may come from shipping.

Eco-friendly Fish Wellboat to be Built by Havyard
Herøy-based shipping company orders a specialised live fish transport vessel from Havyard Ship Technology's yard in Leirvik, Norway. Delivery of the first ship is due in January 2014 with the option for delivery of a similar ship six months later. Each wellboat has an estimated value of NOK 250 million. The Havyard 587 design has three large cylinder tanks for live fish with a capacity of 3250 cubic. The wellboat is nearly 85 metres long and has accommodation for 12 persons.
