China – Denmark Shipbuilding Innovation Seminar Inaugurated
Danish Ambassador opens seminar on Shipbuilding Innovation. The seminar was organised in cooperation between China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry (CANSI) and Odense Maritime Technology Ltd (OMT). The two organisations invited representatives from both countries to discuss the future cooperation, and how China and Denmark can benefit the most from each other. Danish Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen opened the China-Denmark Seminar on Shipbuilding Innovation.

Russian Naval Unit Active in Pacific
Pacific Fleet (PF) task unit consisting of destroyer 'Admiral Panteleyev', oiler 'Boris Butoma', and rescue tug 'Fotiy Krylov' continue exercises. The Russian ships had been taking part in RIMPAC-2012 off the Hawaii islands. The ships exercised various shipborne drills and near the 11- hour time zone replenished fuel and fresh water from the supporting oiler Boris Butoma. Afterwards the crew of Admiral Panteleyev and her attached marine unit held a small-arms firing drill.

Crowley Maritime purchases two new 'Jones Act' tankers from Aker Philadelphia Shipyard. Crowley Maritime Corporation’s petroleum and chemical transportation group announce that it has purchased two new Jones Act tankers, the Pennsylvania and the Florida , from Aker Philadelphia Shipyard ASA. The tankers, scheduled for delivery in September 2012 and March 2013, mark Crowley’s re-entry into the Jones Act tanker market since its last tanker was retired in 2011.
Hi-speed Catamaran Charter Option Exercised by MSC
United States Military Sealift Command (MSC) exercise first of its three, six months options, for the ongoing charter of “WestPac Express”. The option forms part of a 24 month contract that Austal was awarded in December 2011. Indian oil intends to team up with Russia's Rosneft for oil exploration in the Barents & Kara Seas. ONGC, one of the largest oil and gas companies in Asia, has formally addressed Rosneft with a partnership offer in one of the latter’s Arctic hydrocarbon projects. Holland America Line's 'Volendam' rescues 70 stranded sightseers in Glacier Bay, Alaska. While en route to Margerie Glacier in Glacier Bay, Alaska, Holland America Line's Volendam rescued 70 persons from a disabled sightseeing boat, having responded to a distress call from the 79-foot sightseeing vessel Baranof Wind, which struck a rock near Russell Island in Glacier Bay disabling its steering and propulsion and causing the boat to take on water.

U.S.-Flag Lakes Float Down 5.1 Percent in July
U.S.-flag Great Lakes freighters (“lakers”) carried 10.5 million tons of dry-bulk cargo in July, an increase of 6.6 percent compared to June, but a decrease of 5.1 percent compared to a year ago. The July float was, however, just marginally below the month’s 5-year average. Iron ore cargos for the steel industry in July totaled 4.3 million tons, a decrease of nearly 18 percent compared to a year ago. Coal cargos fell by almost 23 percent.
