Permanent Rudder Repairs, No Drydocking
Hydrex has developed a new method enabling permanent repairs of rudders without drydocking the ship. The newly designed equipment is lightweight and can be mobilized very rapidly in our special flight containers. Major defects on rudders very often cause unscheduled drydocking of ships. The new method designed by Hydrex’s technical department allows engineers, welders and inspectors to perform their tasks in dry conditions.

Offshore Ship Designer Sets up in Singapore
IJmuiden-based Offshore Ship Designers (OSD) has opened a design office in Singapore. The office will provide a local liaison point for customers building ships in Asia which were designed in the Dutch and UK offices of OSD, and also provide a local solution for design projects for companies based in Singapore. “We already have a successful design and newbuilding supervision office in Shanghai,” said Michiel Wijsmuller, managing director of OSD.

Bisso Marine Buries Pipeline in Gulf
Bisso Marine, a provider of energy and maritime support services, successfully buried a pipeline 16 feet below the hardened seabed of the Gulf of Mexico. Working in 54 feet of water, the crew of the DLB Big Chief installed a hot tap and used one of the company’s three 2,700 gpm@1,150 psi Super Jet Pump Systems to bury 13,893 feet of pipeline 10 miles off Galveston Island. The pipeline burial was especially challenging because of the hard shear strength of the soil on the seafloor.
