European multimodal solutions provider Samskip Multimodal B.V. and Intercombi (ICL) Transport, a subsidiary of the leading logistics company Turkey Netlog Logistics Group as limited partners have launched the joint initiative GreenBridge Multimodal C.V., offering high frequency connections between Turkey and Europe.

Samskip Multimodal and Intercombi introduced GreenBridge Multimodal C.V., a joint initiative delivering multimodal services between Europe and Turkey.

Initially GreenBridge will offer three block trains per week linking the Samskip Multimodal rail terminal in Duisburg (DE) to the Port of Trieste (IT), for on-connection to ships operating between Trieste and Istanbul. The company expects the block train service frequency to increase to five departures a week in the near future.

GreenBridge services will connect Turkey to most European destinations, offering customers substantial advantages over conventional (road) transport that include faster transit times, the elimination of border delays, traffic jams and road taxation, and lower fuel costs. In addition, the multimodal solution delivers the reliability of large guaranteed capacity, significantly lower CO2 emissions and greater flexibility on equipment selection up to and including 45ft containers and trailers.

The GreenBridge initiative combines the benefits of Samskip’s European multimodal network and Intercombi’s in-depth industry experience and expertise in the Turkish market. GreenBridge will also serve as a one-stop shop solution, offering customs clearance assistance, dedicated customer service and local representation. Furthermore, customers will be able to follow the status of their bookings online, from the point of loading to delivery.

“The GreenBridge initiative will attract huge volumes” said Gökalp Çak, GM of Intercombi and the Vice President of Netlog Logistics Group. “We will have the flexibility to adapt the number of containers and semi-trailers carried by GreenBridge to market demand.”

Çak added, “Based on our traffic predictions, if the same volumes were moved over the road using trucks, CO2 emissions would be up to 275% higher.”

Diederick Blom, Chief Operating Officer Samskip Multimodal B.V. said “This joint initiative fits in with the ongoing demand for sustainable multimodal transport solutions between Turkey and Europe perfectly.”
