Technical inquiries to SRC Group ramped up after it received Approval in Principle (AIP) for a concept which ‘reinvented methanol fuel storage’ on board ships. Wärtsilä to Convert Stena Line Ferries to Methanol Fuel

Wärtsilä has been contracted by Swedish ferry operator Stena Line to convert some of its vessels to operate with methanol fuel. The conversions will include the fuel supply system and engine modifications, as well as integrating the new installations with the ships’ existing systems. The full scope of the supply package will include fuel tank instrumentation and valves, transfer pumps, low pressure pump skid, fuel valve trains, methanol fuel pump units and the automation of the system, engine conversions, and automation upgrade for the engine control room.

Silver Ships Wins Its Largest-ever Shipbuilding Contract

Aluminum boatbuilder Silver Ships announced it has secured its largest shipbuilding contract order to date.The Theodore, Ala. builder said it was awarded a $6.1 million dollar firm-fixed-price General Services Administration (GSA) contract for the construction and delivery of up to 246 High-Speed Maneuvering Surface Target (HSMST) custom vessels. The deal includes options that, if exercised, would bring the cumulative value of the contract to $48.25 million dollars.Delivery of the first target boats is scheduled for March 2024.This contract entails the construction of Silver Ships’ AM800 RHIB.

KR Approves Methanol-fueled MR Tanker

LNG Dual-fuel VLCC Design Gets AIP from Bureau Veritas

French engineering firm GTT said it has obtained an approval in principle (AIP) from Bureau Veritas (BV) for the design of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel very large crude carrier (VLCC). This approval is part of a joint development project (JDP), started in May 2022, and carried out by Shanghai Waigaiqiao Shipyard (SWS) and BV.The SWS-designed vessel features optimized hull lines and is equipped with GTT’s high-tech system for LNG cargo containment, enabling safe and flexible carbon-neutral shipping.

Containerized LNG Solution Gets AIP from Bureau Veritas

A containerized liquefied natural gas (LNG) solution jointly developed by Marine Service GmbH and Newport Shipping has received approval in principle (AIP) from classification society Bureau Veritas (BV).The 40' ISO LNG Fuel Tank Container System is suitable for LNG-fueled newbuildings and retrofits of container vessels.The LNG fuel tank container is a class approved Type C LNG fuel tank in accordance with the IGF-code and is based on German TÜV certified IMDG Container. The capacity of the tank is 31 gross tonnes and about 33m3 of LNG.

GTT Designs Tanks for EPS' LNG-fueled Containerships

French engineering firm GTT announced it has received an order from Korean shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries for the fuel tank design of three liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled containerships on behalf of the Singapore-based shipping company Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS).These three new vessels, each with a capacity of 7,700 containers, will be equipped with LNG tanks, each holding up to 6,000 m3 of LNG used as fuel.
