TMS Cardiff Gas Places Order at HHI

TMS Cardiff Gas said it signed a contract with South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for the construction of one 174,000 cubic meter liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, with an option for a second vessel.   The newbuild is scheduled for delivery in 2020, when she will enter into a seven year time charter contract with TOTAL Gas & Power Chartering, Limited.   This order is the first in the company’s X Carrier Series, which expands the TMS Cardiff Gas fleet of managed vessels to 10 (six LNG carriers and four VLGCs).

Baltic Exchange to Develop LNG Freight Index

The Baltic Exchange is looking into launching a freight index for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is working with leading ship brokers to explore potential shipping routes that might be used as the LNG market grows, the company said on Thursday. Founded in 1744 as a forum for chartering vessels, the Baltic Exchange now produces benchmark indexes for global shipping rates, including ones used by the multi-billion dollar freight derivatives market. Singapore Exchange acquired the exchange in 2016 and since then the Baltic has been looking for new markets to develop.

Finnish ship designer Deltamarin, part of AVIC Group, together with France's Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT), an engineering company involved in membrane containment systems for transport and storage of LNG, has studied the use of membrane-type tanks on cargo and passenger vessels. Port of Rotterdam: 2017 in Review

Over the past year, 29,646 seagoing vessels entered the port of Rotterdam, up more than 600 from 2016's 29,022. The number of incidents in the port fell from 159 to 129, and included one ‘serious accident’ involving an inland vessel that went adrift after hitting a groyne with its rudder. Pollution fight drives surge in pipeline, LNG imports but Japan remains world's biggest importer of LNG. Beijing's crackdown on pollution has put China on track to overtake Japan this year as the world's biggest importer of natural gas, used to replace dirtier coal. China - already the biggest importer of oil and coal - is the world's third biggest user of natural gas behind the United States and Russia, but has to import around 40 percent of its total needs as domestic production can't keep up with demand.

President Moon was visiting Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering`s Okpo Shipyard in Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, to inspect the shipbuilding yard of an icebreaker arctic liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. “The government will protect and bring up your hope,” he said. The icebreaker LNG carrier the president inspected is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that`s specialized in polar regions. It enables the ship to safely navigate cold weather in temperatures as low as minutes 52 C.

Jumbo Orders LNG-powered Heavy Lift Ship

Dutch transportation and installation contractor Jumbo said it has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with shipbuilder China Merchants Industry Holdings (CMIH) for the construction of a new heavy lift crane vessel (HLCV) scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2020. The DP2 vessel will feature dual fuel engines capable of operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG), and will be built to serve the offshore wind and the offshore oil and gas industries. “Despite the current offshore climate, we are committing to this industry long term,” said Jumbo managing director, Michael Kahn.

Samsung Heavy Bags USD 197 Mln LNG Carrier Order

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has bagged a KRW 210 billion (USD 195 million) deal, for construction of an liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. A report in Business Korea said that SHI will ink the contract with a foreign shipping company by the end of the year, Samsung Heavy Industries officials said. The name of the company, however, remained undisclosed. SHI reportedly said it is a “foreign company”. The ship will have capacity of transporting 180,000 cubic meters of LNG and she will be probably delivered in 2020, according to local media.

GasLog: New Shipbuilding Order with SHI

GasLog , an international owner, operator and manager of liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, has announces that it has ordered a newbuild 180,000 cubic meter vessel with XDF propulsion from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) that is scheduled to  deliver in the third quarter  of 2019. This vessel is currently unchartered but its early delivery means that it is expected to deliver into a strong LNG shipping market. Paul Wogan, Chief Executive Officer of GasLog Ltd., commented, "I am very pleased to announce this expansion in our fleet.

New Shuttle Tanker Design for Teekay

A new shuttle tanker concept developed by the world’s largest shuttle tanker services provider, Teekay, will offer a new level of innovation, says Wärtsilä, whose smart technology solutions will be featured on the new vessels. To date, Teekay has ordered four of these ‘next generation’ ships, each to be built at the Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) yard in South Korea. According to Wärtsilä, the newbuilds will feature a broad assortment of its latest technology innovations, all of which are central to the concept’s overall performance gains.

MOL, Mitsui Ink Charter Deal

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. signed a contract with Mitsui & Co., Ltd. today (January 29) to charter a new 177,000m3 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier. Adani Offers Dhamra LNG Stake to IOC, GAIL

Adani Group has offered 49% stake in its Rs. 5,000-crore ($750 million) Dhamra liquefied natural gas (LNG) project in Odisha to the state-owned oil and gas companies GAIL India and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), according to a PTI report. The company has written to the state-owned firms offering them 49% stake in the 5 million tonnes a year liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal planned at Dhamra. The Dhamra LNG project, having a capacity of five million tonnes per year, would be operational in 2018-2019.

Delfin LNG Submits Application for Deepwater Port Export Facility

Delfin LNG has applied to construct, own and operate an offshore deepwater port export facility located approximately 50 miles south of the Texas/Louisiana border in the Gulf of Mexico.    The proposed facility would receive natural gas from the national grid, convert the gas into liquefied natural gas (LNG) and transfer the LNG to LNG carrier vessels for export.   The U.S. Maritime Administration (MARAD) published a Federal Register Notice of Application (NOA) notifying that it received Delfin LNG’s application through the U.S. Coast Guard.

FSRU Finally Arrives in Egypt

A long-delayed liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal has arrived in Egypt with a cargo of 160,000 cubic metres of LNG, an official at state gas board EGAS told Reuters on Thursday. Iran to Build Tankers with Belgian Financing

Reports indicate that Iran has signed a contract with Belgian shipping company Exmar to build 10 liquefied natural gas (LNG) tankers. Iran sits on the world's second largest reserves of natural gas, and will start production of LNG in 2009. Its natural gas reservoirs in southern Gulf waters are shared with Qatar, the main global exporter of LNG. Yamal LNG Inks Deal with Gazprom to Sell LNG in Asia

A trading subsidary of Russian gas producer Yamal LNG has signed a long-term supply contract with a trading subsidiary of Gazprom, under which liquefied natural gas (LNG) produced by Yamal LNG will be sold in Asia, Yamal LNG said on Friday.   The company said in a statement that the contract involved sales of 2.9 million tons of LNG per annum which would be sold to the Asia-Pacific region, primarily India, with the LNG priice indexed to crude oil.   The contract was signed by Yamal Trade Pte Ltd and Gazprom Marketing & Trading Singapore Pte Ltd.     (Reporting By Jason Bush)

Bomb Threat Cut Lithuania LNG Terminal Output

Gas supply from Lithuania's liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal was interrupted on Wednesday due to a bomb threat that later turned out to be a hoax, the terminal's operator Klaipedos Nafta said on Wednesday. The terminal is now preparing to restart, a spokeswoman said. The floating terminal, leased from Norway's Hoegh LNG , was opened last year and received the first commercial LNG cargo from Norway in late December. The terminal halted gas withdrawals at around 0900 GMT after receiving a bomb threat and was evacuated. Reporting by Andrius Sytas

BW Gas Floating LNG Terminal Arrives in Egypt

A second liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal arrived in Egypt without cargo on Wednesday and will start operating in the third week of October, state gas board EGAS head Khaled Abdel Badie told Reuters. The floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) provided by Singapore-based Norwegian gas shipping company BW Gas will allow Egypt to import LNG and reconvert it to natural gas to feed into the energy-starved country's power grid. Total Delivers First LNG Cargo from Gladstone

The first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Australia's Gladstone project has been delivered to Korea Gas Corp, Total Chief Executive Patrick Pouyanne said on Thursday. The French oil and gas company holds a 27.5 percent stake in the project. Other partners include Australia's Santos Ltd , Malaysia's Petronas and Korea Gas Corp. El Paso Global LNG Signs MOU With EGAS

El Paso Global LNG, a subsidiary of El Paso Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to work with the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and the Eqyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) to investigate opportunities for El Paso to invest in the natural gas sector in Egypt. The MOU will allow the parties to cooperate in the exploration, production, gathering, transportation, and processing of natural gas and the possible development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) liquefaction plant in Egypt. The parties will begin various studies into Egypt's natural gas sector immediately.
