MOL Names New LNG Vessels for Tokyo Gas

Japanese transport major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) named two newbuilding LNG carriers for the provider of natural gas Tokyo Gas at the Tsu shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation (JMU).The newbuilding LNG tankers named as Energy Innovator and Energy Universe are the 10th and 11th LNG carriers that Tokyo LNG Tanker owns and manages.MOL is involved in the management of eight of those ships, including the two newbuilding carriers.The two vessels will transport LNG from the Cove Point LNG Project in the United States to Tokyo Gas…

MOL Buys Reliance Ethane Carrier Fleet

Japanese shipping giant Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) will buy Reliance Industries (RIL) stakes in Singapore-based Reliance Ethane Holding (REHPL) which has a fleet of six very large ethane carriers (VLECs).RIL has 100% holding in six limited liability companies (LLCs) which own the VLECs. "MOL and a strategic minority investor have signed binding definitive agreements for an investment in the six special purpose limited liability companies each owning a VLEC," said a statement from the Mukesh Ambani-led Indian conglomerate holding.Transaction closing is subject to regulatory approvals.

Mitsui OSK Lines Adds Six VLECs to Fleet

Japan's Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd. will add six very large ethane carriers (VLECs) to its fleet through an investment deal with Reliance Industries Ltd, the Indian conglomerate said on Wednesday.Mitsui OSK, which has a fleet of more than 850 vessels, and a minority investor signed an agreement to buy stakes in six special purpose companies of Reliance Industries which own a VLEC each. Given Mitsui OSK is currently the operator of all the six VLECs, the investment will ensure continued safe and efficient operations of these carriers, Reliance Industries said.

Lines and Mitsui & Co have participated in a long-term charter business  operated by MODEC for the purpose of providing a floating production, storage, and offloading system (FPSO) for use in the Area 1 block offshore Mexico and a loan agreement for the Project was entered into on April 12, 2019.Mitsui and MOL invested in Area1 Mexico MV34 B.V. French shipping engineering company Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has received an order from Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine shipyard concerning the tank design of the LNG bunkering vessel on order at the yard for Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) subsidiary.The LNG containment specialist said in a release that it will design the tanks of the vessel, which will be fitted with the Mark III Flex membrane containment system, a technology developed by GTT.The vessel will offer a total cargo tank capacity of 12,000 m3.

MOL Launches Rope Status Monitoring System

Japanese shipping major Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) announced that, in partnership with MOL Coastal Shipping, and MOL Information Systems, it will start a demonstration test of a mooring rope with a built-in sensor, along with a rope status monitoring system.The project focuses on the mooring ropes that connect vessels to piers and other port facilities, said a press release from the  international shipping company based in Tokyo, Japan.In general, the tension on mooring ropes is hardly determined in accurate, except at certain ports equipped with tension monitors.
