Van Oord Christens Second LNG-powered TSHD Vox Apolonia

Van Oord announced on Tuesday it has christened its new trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Vox Apolonia, built by Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd shipyard in Singapore.The newbuild is the second in a series of three new dual-fuel liquefied natural gas (LNG) fueled TSHDs being built for the Dutch dredging and marine services contractor.The 10,500-cubic-meter-capacity Vox Apolonia and its sister vessels Vox Ariane and Vox Alexia, fall into the mid-class section of Van Oord’s TSHD fleet. measuring 137.5 meters long and 27.6 meters across the beam.

BP's giant Argos offshore platform, to be used for the Mad Dog 2 development in the Gulf of Mexico, was this week loaded on Boskalis' BOKA Vanguard vessel in South Korea and is preparing set sail for the U.S.According to Boskalis, the Dutch marine services contractor, the giant Argos floating production unit weighing nearly 70,000 tons was floated onto Boskalis' semi-submersible heavy transport vessel BOKA Vanguard on Tuesday."The vessel was submerged well over 29 meters to make this happen.

Van Oord to Remove Silt from Averijhaven to Make Room for Energy Port

Dutch marine and offshore services contractor Van Oord has won a contract to design and carry out the removal of silt from the Averijhaven depot in IJmuiden, The Netherlands, creating space for what will eventually become an energy port for offshore wind.Van Oord won the 1,5-year contract worth 18 million euros (USD 21 million) from Rijkswaterstaat, the executive agency of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.After the removal of the contaminated silt, the area will be developed into an energy port.

Inchcape to Pay $20 Mln for Allegedly Overbilling US Navy

Schlumberger to Acquire Majority Stake in Eurasia Drilling

Russia's Eurasia Drilling Company (EDC) said on Thursday it would sell a 51 percent stake in the company to the oilfield services provider, U.S.-based Schlumberger NV.   The agreement is subject to approval by the Federal Antimonopoly Service of Russia (FAS), the company said. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed since it is subject to approval.   The agreement, if approved, would extend a strategic alliance with Schlumberger that dates to 2011, Eurasia added.   EDC is an onshore and offshore drilling and well services contractor. EDC owns and operates one of the largest fleets of land drilling and workover units in the world.   Schlumberger provides technology for reservoir characterization, drilling, production, and processing to the oil and gas industry.

McDermott, Saudi Aramco Sign MoU

McDermott International has signed another memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Saudi Aramco to expand and develop the company’s physical and human capital within Saudi Arabia as part of Aramco’s In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) initiative. The MOU was signed as part of the first ever Saudi-U.S. CEO Forum. McDermott was the only engineering, construction, procurement, and installation (EPCI) services contractor attending the summit along with other major U.S. business leaders. The forum was organized to coincide with U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to Saudi Arabia. At the forum, Saudi ministers and CEOs from major U.S. companies met to discuss expanding business between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia.

U.S. Joins Lawsuit Alleging ISS Overbilling

The government has announced  that it has joined a lawsuit alleging that Inchcape Shipping Services Holdings Limited and certain of its subsidiaries (collectively, Inchcape) violated the False Claims Act by knowingly overbilling the U.S. Navy for ship husbanding services from years 2005 to 2014. Three MacGregor Offshore Cranes Specified for New DSV

A new dive support vessel (DSV), optimized for operations in the North Sea, will feature three MacGregor offshore cranes, enabling efficient load-handling in the subsea environment. MacGregor, part of Cargotec, secured a new contract for one 120-ton active heave-compensated (AHC) MacGregor offshore crane and two 10-ton offshore cranes from South Korean shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). Wärtsilä to Design Heavy Construction Vessel for Subsea 7

Wärtsilä, a marine industry solutions and services provider, has been contracted to provide the design for a large heavy construction vessel (HCV). The ship is to be built for Subsea 7 S.A., the seabed-to-surface engineering, construction, and services contractor to the offshore energy industry worldwide, by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) in South Korea. HHI is one of the world's largest ship building companies. Wärtsilä Ship Design's VS 4285 HCV design will be one of most capable heavy construction vessels in Subsea 7's fleet of over 40 ships, the company claims.

New ONR Policy Equalizes Opportunities for Contractors

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) published new guidance Sept. 15, aimed at preventing conflicts of interest among companies competing for business with the science and technology organization. "This new set of guidelines levels the playing field for the contracting community when it comes to doing business with ONR," said Mark Bennington, ONR's executive director for acquisition management. "The new policy is effective immediately and is expected to ensure fair competition for companies selected to perform research and development (R&D) as well as systems engineering and technical assistance or other support services," Bennington said.

Wärtsilä to Supply Propulsion for Six Offshore Brazil PLVs

Wärtsilä received a significant order to supply the propulsion solutions for six new offshore pipe laying vessels being built by IHC Merwede. Three of the ships are to be built for Subsea 7, the seabed-to-surface engineering, construction, and services contractor to the offshore energy industry. The other three vessels have been ordered by Seabras Sapura, the Sapura Kencana and Seadrill partnership entity. All six vessels are scheduled to be delivered during the first half of 2015 and the second half of 2016.

The seabed-to-surface engineering, construction and services contractor to the offshore energy industry Subsea 7 has ordered the OCTOPUS suite of products for the recently delivered Pipelay/Heavy Lift vessel Seven Borealis. This latest addition to the Subsea 7 fleet is a state-of-the-art vessel that shall be involved in ultra-deep and deepwater projects in the world’s deepest and harshest environments.
