SCHOTTEL to Equip CMAL Electric Ferries

SCHOTTEL will supply rudder propellers for a new series of seven electric double-ended ferries by Scotland’s state-owned Caledonian Maritime Assets Limited (CMAL). The vessels will be constructed by the Polish shipyard Remontowa Shipbuilding S.A, with the first delivery scheduled for 2027. Designed to operate across nine routes on Scotland’s West Coast, the ferries will contribute to more sustainable regional transport.The propulsion system selected consists of four SCHOTTEL RudderPropellers type SRP 100 L per vessel.

TORM Acquires Full Ownership of ME Production

TORM A/S has acquired the remaining 25% ownership stake in ME Production (MEP) from founder and CEO Jens Peter Faldt. MEP is a Danish industrial engineering company with a proven record in green maritime equipment. This expansion follows TORM’s initial acquisition of a 75% ownership stake in 2022, and now TORM has full ownership of MEP.The two companies have maintained a close, productive collaboration since 2018, when a joint venture was established to manufacture exhaust gas cleaning systems (scrubbers) in China. Since then, more than 70 systems have been installed on TORM vessels.

Later this month Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (“K” LINE) will conduct a trial of Inmarsat Maritime's new bonded network service NexusWave on “K” LINE's fleet. “In recent years, there has been an increase in data transmission to enhance safety and quality. The IMO Pollution Prevention and Response (PPR) Sub-Committee held its 10th session from April 24 to 28, 2023, discussing a range of topics including black carbon regulation and an update to biofouling guidance.ABS has provided a summary of the session, noting that after extensive discussion, the Sub-Committee agreed to establish a Correspondence Group that will seek to finalize draft guidelines on black carbon emission data collection and reporting.
