Blowtorch Used to Free Mariners from Sinking Tug in Sabine Pass

Four mariners were rescued in dramatic fashion from a tugboat that was sinking in Sabine Pass, Texas, on Friday.The U.S. Coast Guard said its watchstanders at Sector Houston-Galveston command center were notified at 5:38 a.m. that the crew of the 71-foot tug Sea Cypress hailed mayday on VHF-FM channel 13 and reported they were capsizing while moored near the mouth of the Sabine Pass channel.Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of…

Tanker Crew Member Medevaced off Sabine Pass

An ailing crew member was medevaced from a tanker vessel off Sabine Pass, Texas, on Tuesday, the U.S. Coast Guard said.Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center watchstanders received a medevac request at 1 p.m. from Moran Shipping Agency stating the 54-year-old first assistant engineer aboard the 820-foot Dubai Beauty was experiencing stroke-like symptoms. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac.A Coast Guard Station Sabine 45-foot Response Boat–Medium boat crew launched to conduct the medevac.The RB–M crew rendezvoused with the Dubai Beauty in the Sabine Pass anchorage, took aboard the ailing crew member and transferred him to the awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Station Sabine in stable condition.

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued nine people Thursday from a burning jack-up drilling rig near Sabine Pass, Texas.Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a notification at 12:51 p.m. from the dredging vessel Ohio that the Pride Wisconsin offshore drilling rig was on fire in Sabine Pass with nine people aboard.Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and launched a Coast Guard Station Sabine Pass 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew and an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist.

Towing Vessel Crewman Medevaced near Sabine Pass

The U.S. Coast Guard said it medevaced an ailing mariner from a towing vessel approximately 28 miles south of Sabine Pass, Texas, Friday.The agency's watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston received a report of a mariner experiencing severe sickness and consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended the medevac.A Coast Guard Station Sabine Response Boat-Medium boat crew was launched to the scene and transferred the patient to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at Station Sabine.The mariner was reported to be in stable condition.

OSV Collides With Tug Near Port Arthur

CG Assists Towing Vessel Taking on Water

A Coast Guard crew assisted a 72-foot towing vessel taking on water near Port Arthur, Texas, Thursday evening.Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report that the towing vessel, Antietam, was taking on water and in need of assistance. Antietam, who was pushing two barges, intentionally grounded near Taylor Bayou to avoid sinking.A Station Sabine Pass 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew was launched. Once on scene, the crew of the RB-S assisted in dewatering the vessel.There are no reports of pollution at this time.Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur personnel are scheduled to assess the vessel at first light, Friday.

OSV Crewman Medevaced off Texas

An ailing crew member aboard an offshore supply vessel (OSV) was medevaced 14 miles off the Texas Point Wildlife Refuge, Wednesday morning.   At approximately 7:45 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard watchstanders received a report from the 120-foot vessel, Poppa John, stating a crewmember fell and broke a leg and an arm and was experiencing extreme pain.   Watchstanders launched a 45-foot response boat crew with an EMT aboard to meet the vessel as it got closer to shore.   Once the man was transferred to the response boat, he was taken to Station Sabine where EMS was waiting. He was reported in stable condition.

Two Medevaced from Tanker off Sabine, Texas

Coast Guard crews medevaced two men after they were struck by a pressurized object and suffered injuries aboard a tank ship about 20 miles off the Texas Point Wildlife Refuge Wednesday afternoon. The crew of the tanker United Ambassador contacted Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur watchstanders, who alerted Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders at 2:35 p.m., reporting a 24-year-old man was struck in the head by a pressurized part causing bleeding and unconsciousness and a 42-year-old man's nose was broken. At approximately 2:45 p.m., watchstanders diverted an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Houston and launched a 45-foot response boat from Station Sabine.

Crewman Overboard Near Texas

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and the crew of a nearby ship are searching for a crewman who fell overboard while painting the side of a bulk carrier at anchor about 10 miles off Sabine Pass, Texas, Saturday. The crew of the CF Crystal, a Chinese-flagged 738-foot bulk carrier, contacted Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston watchstanders at about 9 a.m. Saturday, to report a crewman had fallen overboard. The crew reportedly threw the man a life ring but couldn't reach him, and they saw him submerge shortly after. The USCG dispatched a Station Sabine Pass 45-foot rescue boatcrew, which arrived on scene within 30 minutes and began searching. A MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Houston was also sent to join the search.

USCG Rescues 5 From Platform In Gulf Of Mexico

Five men were rescued Monday from an unmanned platform about 40 miles southeast of the Texas/Louisiana border, after their fishing boat began taking on water. The men made it to the unmanned platform and one man was able to call the Coast Guard for help at about 10:45 a.m. Sector Houston/Galveston watchstanders sent a 45-foot response boat and crew from Station Sabine Pass, but the weather conditions didn't allow for them to safely get the men aboard from the rig. In order to recover the men before potentially severe weather moved in, two MH-65 Dolphin helicopters were sent from Air Station Houston to get the men to safety. "They were out there in the elements and had no way of getting back.

One Missing After Collision on Sabine Lake

The Coast Guard, Port Arthur Fire Department and Jefferson County Sheriff's Department are searching for a 56-year-old man after a collision occurred between the tug and barge Father Seelos and the missing man's pleasure craft about 500 feet west of Goat Island in Sabine Lake, Sunday. Missing is John Tran of Bridge City, Texas. The captain of tug Father Seelos contacted Vessel Traffic Service Port Arthur at approximately 2:30 p.m. notifying them of the collision. Unified Command Responds to Port Arthur Spill

At 12:17 a.m. Jan. 24, the Dixie Vengeance and two barges were separated from the Eagle Otome and moored on the east bank of the Sabine Neches Waterway. The Unified Command continues to respond to the spill, ensuring the safety of the public and minimizing environmental impact. Currently 11 skimmers are conducting operations and air monitoring is on-going. A collision between the towing vessel Dixie Vengeance with the two barges it was pushing, and the 807-ft tank ship Eagle Otome, resulted in damage to the Eagle Otome, which was loaded with crude oil. Coast Guard Rescues Fisherman Near Texas

The Coast Guard rescued a fisherman from the Gulf of Mexico today after he fell off the shrimp boat Kelly T approximately nine miles southwest of Sabine, Texas. A watchstander from Coast Guard Group Galveston, Texas, received a report at 10:52 a.m. that a crewman on the Kelly T was missing, as well as one of the boat's life rings. The watch stander immediately launched a rescue boatcrew from Coast Guard Station Sabine and an HH-65B Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston to search for the man. The helicopter crew arrived on scene at 11:40 a.m. and began their search pattern. At 12:03 a.m., the helicopter crew spotted the fisherman and the rescue boatcrew recovered him from the water. He is reported to be in good health.

Coast Guard Investigates Collision

The Coast Guard medevaced a 47-year-old man from the OSV Capt. After it reportedly collided with the a tanker ship, the Panam Carabe, Friday night. A rescue boat from Coast Guard Station Sabine was dispatched, to meet the Capt. Nick about 10 miles off shore from Sabine, Texas. The crew arrived at the vessel's location, after being slowed by heavy fog and extremely low visibility. The injured crewman was complaining of intense internal pain, believed to be the result of a collision the vessel had with a tanker ship Friday night. The tanker Panam Carabe reported the incident to the Coast Guard. The collision occurred in the ship anchorage in Galveston, Texas. The crewman was taken back to the Coast Guard station and transferred to awaiting emergency medical technicians.
