Damen Offshore Carrier Maersk Connector Launched
Yesterday senior representatives of Maersk Supply Service, DeepOcean UK and the Damen Shipyards Group who gathered at Damen Shipyards Galati, Romania witnessed the launching of subsea support vessel Maersk Connector. The vessel is owned and operated by Maersk Supply Service and is built to contract for a seven year charter agreement with DeepOcean. Maersk Connector is the second of a new generation of cable-laying vessels developed by the Damen Shipyards Group.
Transgrain Charters Diana Panamax Bulker
Diana Shipping Inc. a global shipping company specializing in the ownership of dry bulk vessels, today announced that on July 8, 2015, through a separate wholly-owned subsidiary, it entered into a time charter contract with Transgrain Shipping B.V., Rotterdam, for one of its Panamax dry bulk vessels, the m/v Clio. However, due to delays caused by unscheduled repairs to the vessel, the charter agreement was concluded earlier today.

General Dynamics received a $20 million contract modification from the U.S. Navy to continue modernizing the AN/BYG-1 Weapons Control System (WCS) Technology Insertion and Advanced Processing Build software for U. 1,500 to be Laid Off from Newport News Shipbuilding
Layoffs at Newport News Shipbuilding could top 1,500 from now through 2016 as the company copes with a temporary drop in work, the company president told employees this week. In a letter to the workforce, President Matt Mulherin said layoffs will exceed 500 people this year, with more details expected the fall. Next year, job cuts will "likely" exceed 1,000, he said. Those layoffs wil be announced as work drops across the yard. The cutbacks will hit both salaried and hourly workers.

The first Wärtsilä low-speed two-stroke dual-fuel (DF) engine destined for a commercial application has reportedly completed its Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at a Chinese licensee of Winterthur Gas & Diesel (WinGD), the Switzerland-based designer, developer and licensor of Wärtsilä brand low-speed two-stroke engines.
