UK First to Accept Marine Geoengineering Amendments
The United Kingdom has become the first State to formally accept the 2013 marine geoengineering amendments to the 1996 “London Protocol”, the treaty covering dumping of wastes at sea. The amendments support the precautionary approach by providing for specific marine geoengineering activities to be permitted only when the activity is assessed as constituting legitimate scientific research. Currently, only ocean fertilization for research purposes may be permitted.
CMA CGM to use Kingston As Transshipment Hub
French shipping giant CMA CGM plans to use Kingston Container Terminal, Jamaica as a strategic Caribbean transshipment hub for an enlarged Panama Canal. The Port connects to US East Coast, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and northern Brazil. Kingston hub is centrally located in the Caribbean Sea, opposite the Panama Canal just one day’s sailing away, CMA CGM decided long ago to make this a strategic location.

POSH Bags Shell FLNG Contract
Singapore’s offshore marine services provider PACC Offshore Services Holdings Ltd. (POSH) has been awarded a contract to support Shell’s Prelude floating liquefied natural gas facility using its semi-submersible accommodation vessel the “POSH Arcadia”. The 750-pax POSH Arcadia will be deployed to provide accommodation support for the hook-up and commissioning phase of the Shell Prelude FLNG Project in the Browse Basin, off the north-west coast of Western Australia.
