Navig8 Inks Sale and Leaseback Deal with SBI
Navig8 Chemical Tankers Inc. an international shipping company focused on the transportation of chemicals, today announced that it has entered into a sale and leaseback transaction with subsidiaries of Japan-based SBI Holdings Inc (“SBI”) for two 25,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers (the “Vessels”) being built by Kitanihon Shipbuilding Co. Ltd (“Kitanihon”). Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank (“CA-CIB”) is providing debt financing to SBI in connection with the transaction.
Danish Maritime Authority Use Drones for Inspection
The Danish Maritime Authority now has its first certified drone pilot and will, in the future, use the drone as a supplement in connection with inspections of the Authority's lighthouses. A small pocket camera is put through a hole in the ceiling and a photo is taken in the little dark area. From the outside, the naked eye and binoculars are used. Often, this has been reality when surveyors from the Danish Maritime Authority have assessed the condition of a lighthouse roof.
Navy Christens Littoral Combat Ship Wichita
The Navy will christen its newest Freedom-variant littoral combat ship, USS Wichita (LCS 13), during a 10 a.m. CST ceremony Saturday, Sept. 17 in Marinette, Wisconsin. Wichita, designated LCS 13, honors the city of Wichita, Kansas. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, the junior senator from Wisconsin, will serve as the principal speaker. Novelist and editor Kate Lehrer, the wife of former PBS news anchor and Wichita native Jim Lehrer, will serve as the ship’s sponsor.
U.S. meeting on ocean conservation nets $5.3 billion in pledges
International participants at a high-level conference on the world's oceans pledged more than $5.3 billion for conservation and designated vast areas as protected waters, U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Friday. More than 90 countries took part in the two-day conference, the third of its kind, in an effort to galvanize attention to the dangers that pollution, climate change and over-fishing may pose to the world's oceans.
Hanjin Shipping plan would see sale of most of its ships
