Danish Ferry Equipped with Wärtsilä 31 Engines
A new 158-meter-long car and passenger ferry being built for Danish operator Mols-Linien will be powered by two eight-cylinder Wärtsilä 31 main engines. The ship is being built at the Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) shipyard in Finland. The Wärtsilä 31 was introduced to the market in 2015 and has been recognized by Guinness World Records as being the world's most efficient four-stroke diesel engine.
Maersk Line Orders 14,800 New Reefer Containers
Maersk Line has ordered 14,800 new reefer containers in 2016, driving the average age of its 270,000 unit reefer container fleet down to 7.9 years. Part of the reefers replace older equipment, and add to the 30,000 reefers acquired by Maersk Line in 2015. “We continue to invest and modernize our reefer fleet to include the latest technologies in supply chain visibility and cargo care,” said Shereen Zarkani, Head of Reefer Management, Maersk Line.
Damen Repeats Multiple Vessel Transport Strategy
Just down river from Damen Song Cam Shipyard, SAL Heavy Lift’s MV Svenja departed from Halong Bay loaded with 14 vessels. The shipment consists primarily of built-for-stock vessels – Stan Pontoons and Tugs – which will be available for immediate purchase on arrival in Rotterdam in October. MV Svenja’s voyage began in Shanghai on August 30th when she started loading eight Stan Pontoons that were built at Damen Yichang Shipyard, China.
ALMACO to Build Cabins, Galleys for Rhine Class Ships
German shipyard MV WERFTEN has awarded ALMACO Group a contract to build the luxury suites and galley areas for Crystal River Cruises’ four Rhine Class luxury river yachts, which will be delivered in 2017 and 2018 from Wismar. The scope of work involves a total of 220 luxury suites and corresponding corridors as well as the visual turnkey delivery of the main galley and pantries, including galley equipment and lining for all four river ships.

High-pressure Plunger Pumps with New Drive Tech
KAMAT has fundamentally revised the mechanical powertrain of its triplex plunger pumps for pressures up to 3,500 bar. As a result, the pumps operate much quieter, and the drive systems consume less energy - in particular in combination with a variable speed drive. According to this principle, KAMAT has developed a new powertrain for its high-pressure plunger pumps and has introduced these drives systems successively in all series.

This clearly will eliminate residual fuel from the available fuel options unless you have fitted your vessel with a scrubber or other exhaust gas treatment technology in order to comply with MARPOL Annex VI emission regulations. At the start of 2015, permitted sulfur levels in emission control areas (ECA) dropped from 1% m/m to 0.10% m/m.
Container Shippers Raided in S.Africa over Suspected Collusion
Six of the world's biggest container shipping companies were raided by South African authorities on Wednesday on suspicion of colluding to inflate rates between Asia and South Africa, the country's Competition Commission said. The development comes as global container lines struggle in the worst-ever market conditions, caused by a glut of ships and slowing global trade, which has battered earnings and forced at least one out of business.
