Disabled Fishing Vessel Rescued Off Nantucket
U.S. A disabled fishing vessel was brought in safely to shore early Monday by U.S. Coast Guard crews aboard the cutters Escanaba and Hammerhead. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Southeastern New England Command Center in Woods Hole, Mass. received a phone call from the captain of the vessel Challenger Sunday morning, stating a line had fouled their propeller, and they were disabled and adrift 70 miles southeast of Nantucket, Mass.

New Towboat Honors Structural Engineer
Joe Gregory, owner of New Generation Shipbulding of Houma, La., reports that his firm’s latest delivery will join the La Porte Texas-based Martin Marine fleet of 29 inland push boats and 54 inland marine tank barges. Martin also operates four offshore tug/barge units. The latest delivery, one of New Generation’s 75 X 30 X 10-foot pushboats, is the Rex Dobson. With an operating draft of 8.5-feet these towboats have a 32-foot eye level from the wheelhouse.

New PLA Catamaran Hull Completed
The hull structures for the Port of London Authority’s (PLA) new 17-meter survey catamaran have been completed by shipbuilder CTruk. The two composite hulls were removed from the mold after several weeks of lay-up work and are now undergoing first stage fit out with fuel tank and ballast tank bulkheads at the builder’s River Colne facility in Colchester, while the deck is molded at its Brightlingsea facility. The next stage will see the deck fitted to the hulls before the wheelhouse is added.
