Ørsted, US Unis to Study Whales in OWP

Danish developer Orsted U.S. Offshore Wind has signed a research partnership  with Rutgers University, the University of Rhode Island and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution to support academic research activities related to offshore wind.The group is set to launch the Ecosystem and Passive Acoustic Monitoring (ECO-PAM) project.Ørsted signed an initial memorandum of understanding with Rutgers University in May 2019 to support academic research activities related to offshore wind.

Safely Navigating the Winds of Change

The first-in-the-nation offshore wind training facility will be located at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.In late October, with much fanfare, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, Stephen Pike, CEO of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and many others joined officials from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy (MMA) to launch the first-in-the-nation offshore wind crew transfer training facility. The group of state and college representatives also officially christened a new training vessel.

SGRE Reaches $1.9Bn Green Guarantee Lines

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has announced that in less than a year, and aligned to its commitment to sustainability it has accumulated €1.72 billion ($1.9Bn) in green guarantee lines."SGRE is moving forward in its strategy of making sustainability a key element of all aspects of its business, including its funding strategy," said a press statement.Siemens Gamesa recently extended a guarantee line from Danske Bank to €150 million from an initial €100 million and included Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) criteria.

MHI Vestas Installs 1st Turbine at Northwester 2

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind (MVOW) announced that the first turbine has been installed at Northwester 2 in Belgium, the world’s first offshore wind park to feature the record-breaking V164-9.5 MW turbine.The 219 MW project, Northwester 2, is the first offshore wind park in the world to deploy the V164-9.5 MW turbine from MHI Vestas. KHI Delivers LNG carrier Marvel Pelican

Japanese public multinational corporation Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) has delivered the Marvel Pelican, a 155,000 m3 capacity liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport vessel for use by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL).The second of Kawasaki's line of 155,000 m3 capacity LNG carriers to be commissioned, this ship is designed to enable passage through the newly expanded Panama Canal, which opened for full operations in 2016.The Marvel Pelican will be used by MOL primarily to transport LNG procured via the American Cameron LNG Project in the U.S.

SGRE Raises $1.6Bln in ‘Green’ Credit

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE) has announced that, in less than a year, it has accumulated €1.48 billion ($1.6Bln) in green guarantee lines.The turbine maker has just completed a deal with Societe Generale to convert a 230 million euro guarantee line to "green”. Prysmian Wins Equinor's Empire Wind Gig

Ireland-based energy company Electricity Supply Board (ESB) and Norwegian energy company Equinor plan to jointly develop offshore wind sites and enter them into the country's renewable energy auctions from the mid-2020s.The partnership will work to identify suitable sites for new offshore windfarms in Irish waters and work to mature potential future wind projects. NJ Governor Doubles Offshore Wind Goal

EIB Ends Financing for Fossil Fuel

The European Investment Bank (EIB), the EU's financing department, will bar funding for most fossil fuel projects to become the world’s first ‘“climate bank”.The bank will end its financing of oil, gas, and coal projects after 2021, and will accelerate clean energy innovation, energy efficiency and renewables. GE Haliade-X 12MW Blade Arrives in US

The blade for GE’s Haliade-X 12MW offshore wind turbine has arrived at MassCEC’s Wind Technology Testing Center (WTTC) in Boston, U.S.The 107-meter blade will undergo a series of fatigue tests that involve moving it millions of times over the period of a few months to validate that it can withstand more than 25 years of operation at sea. BC Ferries Orders 4 Hybrid-Electric Vessels
