Concordia Damen Wins Ship of the Year

Inland shipping vessel Sendo Liner, built by Concordia Damen shipyard in Netherlands, has won the KNVTS Ship of the Year 2019 Maritime Award.The award jury highlighted the vessel’s ‘future-proof’ propulsion configuration (diesel-electric supplemented with a battery pack) as a crucial factor in selecting the Sendo Liner as winner. The award was presented at the 2019 Maritime Awards Gala.The Sendo Liner is an inland shipping container ship with dimensions 110 x 11.45 x 3.2 m (LxWxT).

Varanasi Port Receives India's First Inland Cargo Vessel

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first multi-modal terminal built on the river Ganga in Varanasi (Kashi). He also received India's first container vessel that sailed from Kolkata on the newly-developed inland waterway.The event marked India’s first inland voyage by a container ship since it gained independence from Britain 70 years ago. The first consignment contained cargo belonged to food and beverage giant PepsiCo India.The 1,390km (863 miles) Ganga watercourse is one of the 111 waterways spanning 20,276km that India is reviving or planning to build.

Kenya Plans More Cargo Train to De-congest Mombasa Port

The standard gauge rail (SGR) freight service will increase the number of daily trains on the Mombasa-Nairobi route in the next five months to facilitate faster movement of cargo between the port and the inland container depot (ICD) in Embakasi, reported the Nation. The report quoted China Communications Construction Company chairman, Lu Shan,  as saying that the trains will have increased to 28 by December. He added that currently, they are operating 12 freight trains on a daily basis.

Oosterhout Container Terminal Joins West-Brabant Corridor

DP World to Develop Egypt Port Terminal

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreed by DP World, Egypt’s Holding Company for Maritime and Land Transport and the Suez Canal Authority is aiming to develop a new Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Egypt’s 6th of October City, a satellite town in the Giza Governorate and part of the urban area of Cairo. The three partners will bid for the government contract for the project later this year. The proposed ICD will increase the flow of cargo between ships and major land transportation networks in the country, creating a central distribution point.

DP World, India’s NIIF to Create USD 3 bln Investment Platform

The National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), India’s first sovereign wealth fund, and Dubai-based ports operator DP World have announced the creation of an investment platform to invest up to $3 billion in ports, terminals, transportation and logistics businesses in India. Global Ports Sells Logistika-Terminal to PJSC TransContainer

Global Ports Investments PLC announced that First Container Terminal Inc., one of the Group’s sea terminals, has signed an agreement to sell its 100% shares in JSC Logistika-Terminal (LT), one of the Group’s two inland terminals, to PJSC TransContainer for a consideration of 1.9 billion Russian rubles to be paid upon completion of the transaction. The transaction will allow the Group to optimize its inland terminal network focusing on the Yanino terminal, a modern multipurpose inland terminal in the vicinity of St. Petersburg.

Kalmar Delivers RTGs to Evergreen

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, has successfully delivered five rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes to Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corporation in Taiwan. The cranes will be used in Taoyuan Inland Container Terminal and Hsichih Inland Container Terminal. Evergreen International Storage & Transport Corporation offers inland container terminal services to customers all over Taiwan, including lifting operations and control of inbound and outbound containers; container repairing and cleaning service; and warehousing in the distribution center.
