Diana Shipping Sells Its Oldest Vessel

Diana Shipping on Tuesday announced it has reached a deal to sell its oldest vessel, an 18-year-old panamax bulk carrier.The Greek shipowner said it has reached a memorandum of agreement through one of its subsidiaries to sell the 76,942 dwt vessel Artemis to an undisclosed third-party buyer for $12.99 million. Japan: LNG-Powered Coal Carrier Starts Operation

Japan's Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) and Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. Very Large LPG/Ammonia Carrier Phoenix Harmonia Enters Service

The Phoenix Harmonia, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) powered very large LPG/ammonia carrier, has been constructed by Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and delivered to MOL Energia Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based company of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Group, on September 29.Mitsubishi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, supported Namura and contributed to the delivery of the vessel, based on a technical cooperation agreement executed between the two companies in August 2021.

World's First: Methane Oxidation Catalyst System Gets AIP

A methane oxidation catalyst system developed by Hitachi Zosen Corporation, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), and Yanmar Power Technologies Co. Seanergy Takes Delivery of 2009-built Bulk Carrier. Secures Charter with NYK Line

Seanergy Maritime Holdings Corp. has taken delivery of the M/V Friendship bulk carrier.The vessel is a 176,952 dwt Capesize bulk carrier, built in 2009 by Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in Japan. Wisdom Marine Adds Newbuild

Taiwanese shipping company Wisdom Marine Lines has taken delivery of a 34,000 dwt bulker newbuilding.The newbuild Bulker, MV Daiwan Miracle, was handed over to Wisdom Marine in Japan on April 2, 2019, after completing sea trials in March, said Wisdom Marine Group, the largest dry bulk shipowner in Taiwan by number of vessels.MV Daiwan Miracle is an eco-ship built by Namura Shipbuilding Co, Japanese shipbuilding and repairing company.Featuring a length of 179.9 meters and a width of 30 meters, the handy bulker has a capacity of 44,100 cubic meters.MV Daiwan Miracle flies the flag of Liberia. Wisdom Marine’s fleet has a fleet of 143 vessels, 14 of which are newbuildings as at June 30th, 2018.

Japanese Shipbuilders Partner Up

Japanese shipbuilders Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) and Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. have reached a basic agreement to form an alliance in the commercial ship business. Together the two companies will seek business synergy and target sustainable growth to strengthen global competitiveness, while also respecting mutual independence, MHI said. The shipbuilders will also work toward establishing a technical alliance to focus on development of new ship designs and technologies, standardization of design and construction, as well as efficient shared use of tools and equipment. The alliance with Oshima follows on MHI’s agreement reached at the end of March with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

Japanese Shipbuilding Alliance Threatens Korea

According to the Nikkei, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. (MHI)  has entered negotiations with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., each first, third, and fourth, respectively, in terms of shipbuilding tonnage, to form an alliance in the area of commercial ships. Japanese Yards Mull Shipbuilding Alliance

Four major Japanese shipbuilders are in discussions to form an alliance in hopes of riding out the industry slump. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) announced in a press release today that it has entered talks with Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. “The move toward forming these alliances targets the integration of MHI's strengths in shipbuilding technology and engineering with the three prospective partners' manufacturing capabilities and cost competitiveness,” MHI said.

Babcock LGE Process Secures Namura Contract

As part of its growing network of global partnerships, Babcock LGE, a wholly owned Engineering, Procurement and Project Management business of Babcock International Group, has secured a contract to design; supply and project manage the installation of a cargo handling system for a 38,000cbm Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) ship at Namura Shipbuilding Co. Ltd in Imari, Japan. Based in Edinburgh, this is LGE’s sixth contract with Japanese Shipbuilding business Namura, the contract marks Namura’s strategic return to the gas transportation market since the mid 2000s. Babcock LGE has  delivered many similar projects of varying sizes and plan to continue this success in a prosperous LPG market.

MOL’s Newbuilding Yahagi Maru Delivered

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced the delivery of the coal carrier Shin Yahagi Maru, which will serve Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. The vessel was delivered at Imari Shipyard and Works of Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. on January 22, 2015. The vessel, which was jointly developed by Namura Shipbuilding and MOL, is a state-of-the-art coal carrier with a wide-beam/shallow-draft configuration and wide range of advanced safety and energy-saving features. The vessel is so-called “Hekinan MAX” which has characteristic 250 meters length to l maximize transport volume to the discharging port, Chubu Electric Power’s Hekinan Thermal Power Plant (Location: Hekinan, Aichi Prefecture).

MERS-equipped Ship Records 8% Fuel Savings

The push to outfit commercial vessels with energy saving equipment continues, and news out of Japan says that a Mitsubishi Energy Recovery System (MERS) supplied by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME) was installed on a VLOC (Very Large Ore Carrier) for the first time. The system is designed to enhance power generation efficiency by maximizing recovery and utilization of exhaust gas waste energy from marine diesel engines, and demonstrated significant fuel consumption improvement compared with existing ships during at-sea trial.

Lauritzen & Namura Sign Newbuilding Contract

Lauritzen Bulkers and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Japan have signed contracts for building at Hakodate of two bulk carriers at a signing ceremony in Copenhagen on 10 June 2014. The deal consists of two 34,000 dwt eco design handysize bulk carriers for delivery in 2017. "The newbuilding contract not only confirms our strategy to maintain and develop our solid position in the handysize segment but also our very strong relations with Namura Shipbuilding and Hakodate Docks", says Peter Borup, president of Lauritzen Bulkers. Lauritzen Bulkers combined order program comprises six wholly-owned and two part-owned vessels as well as 16 long-term time-chartered newbuildings for delivery in 2014-17.

JASNAOE Award for MOL Energy Recovery System

Mitsui OSK Lines, Ltd. today announced receipt of the 2014 Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers (JASNAOE) Award for development of a waste heat energy recovery system for marine diesel engine used to generate electric power and assist ship propulsion. The system was installed on a MOL-operated large-scale iron ore carrier. The award was made in ceremonies held in Sendai International Center, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, on May 26, 2014. The system was jointly developed by MOL, Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.

Japanese Shipbuilders Take Stake in Brazil's ECOVIX

Five Japanese companies – Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI), Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Oshima Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Mitsubishi Corporation – have agreed to acquire a stake in ECOVIX -Engevix Construções Oceânicas S.A. MOL to Test NOx-reducing SCR System

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. announced plans to install the Selective catalytic Reduction (SCR) system — jointly developed by MOL, Yanmar Co., Ltd. (President: Takehito Yamaoka), and Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (President: Kensuke Namura) — on all three power generators of an MOL-operated oceangoing freighter for a demonstration test. This test demonstrates NOx denitration under the actual operation of freighter, to meet the Tier III NOx regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The SCR system received a statement of fact from ship classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) on July 1, verifying that it meets the NOx Tier III emission limit, and its superior denitration performance was confirmed.

ClassNK Approves Minimal Ballast Water VLCC Design

Leading classification society ClassNK announced that it has granted AIP (Approval in Principle) to the MIBS (Minimal Ballast Water Ship) VLCC design developed by Namura Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. in cooperation with the Shipbuilding Research Centre of Japan. Namura Shipbuilding Gains

According to a June 17 report from Bloomberg, Namura Shipbuilding Co., a Japanese builder of cargo vessels and tankers, gained the most in a month after increasing its annual profit forecast to reflect compensation it got from a customer that canceled a ship order. The stock rose 7.4 percent as of the close on the Osaka Securities Exchange, the biggest gain since May 19. It has risen 89 percent this year. Net income is forecast at $57m for the year ending March 31, 2010. (Source: Bloomberg)
