The latest additions of the Perkins Sabre offering are the new M85T, M92 and theM115T, which all continue the tradition of the Perkins Sabre marque by being robustly engineered for reliability and durability, and by offering owners and operators a reasonable cost-of-ownership. The turbo-charged models now start with the new three-liter four-cylinder M85T, which develops its maximum 85 hp at 2,600 rpm. This is followed by the four-liter M115T, which develops 115 hp at 2,400 rpm and, like the M92, is a replacement for the M90/4.236; the most popular Perkins Sabre ever built. New GM at Perkins Marine Facility in Wimborne
Engine manufacturer Perkins hires Andrew Goldspink to succeed retiring general manager Steve Phillips. After 30 years at engine manufacturer Perkins, Steve Phillips has elected to retire from his role as General Manager of the company’s marine facility in Wimborne. Over his years at Perkins, Phillips has held leadership roles in Parts and Service (London), Marine Service Manager for the Asia Pacific region (Singapore), through to his current role as General Manager (Wimborne, UK).
Perkins Auxiliary Engines Power Tug Quartet
Perkins marine diesel auxiliary engines have been supplied to four RAmparts 3200-CL tugs built by Cheoy Lee Shipyards Ltd, Hong Kong for operations in Australia and Indonesia. Multico Power Drive Pte Ltd, the distributor for Perkins marine engines in Singapore, has supplied two Perkins 6TWGM engines to each of the following tugs: Hawksbill, Flatback, Loggerhead and Limin ASD 55. Each tug is 32m L.O.A. and built to Lloyds’ requirements with special notations. The Perkins 6TWGM is part of the 1006 Series.
Perkins Sabre Launches New Commercially-Rated Engines
Subsequent to the recent launching of several new commercially-rated engines, the latest additions to the Perkins Sabre range are the M85T, M92 and M115T. Continuing the tradition of the Perkins Sabre brand through reliability and durability, the engines are all easy-to-install, with straightforward maintenance and extended service intervals. At the lower end of the power range is a trio of naturally aspirated models - Perkins Sabre M65, M92, M130C and the 4.236/M90. Both the M65 and M92 are compact four-cylinder models, while the low-stressed three-liter M65 develops 65 hp at 2,600 rpm. The 4.2 liter M92, which has demonstrated its role as the ideal M90 repower, as it has identical engine mounts and exhaust positions, develops 92 hp at 2,400 rpm.
Perkins Sabre Launches Two New Engines
The latest additions to the Perkins Sabre Engines line were introduced this autumn. The naturally aspirated Perkins Sabre M92 and the turbocharged Perkins Sabre M115T have already established themselves as the fastest selling Perkins Sabre Engines of all time. This is due largely to the fact that both are direct and easily fitted replacements for the Perkins Sabre M90/4.236, a highly successful marine diesel engine. The M92 is a four-cylinder, 4.2 liter, 92-hp engine, while the M115T is a 4.0 liter engine that develops 115 hp at 2,400 rpm. When compared to the engine that they are replacing, the engines offer greatly improved all-round performance and lower emissions.

Available to boatbuilders, owners and operators throughout the U.S., Perkins Sabre has introduced the newest additions to its 65 to 800-hp marine diesel range. The four-cylinder model M92 is a 4.2 liter, naturally aspirated 92-hp engine, while the 4 liter, turbocharged M115T runs 115-hp at 2,400 rpm. Replacing one of the most renowned and successful Perkins marine engines to date – the company’s naturally aspirated M90/4.236, which has operated in the U.S. for many years. With upgraded performance, economy and environmental credentials, both the M92 and the M115T are reportedly quick and straightforward, credited to each engine’s sharing of identical engine mounts and exhaust positions.
Somers Named VP, General Manager of NorAm
North American Power Systems, Inc. (NorAm), a recently-appointed Master Distributor of Perkins engines in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, has appointed Jeffrey Somers as vice president. NorAm, one of 10 Master Distributors for Perkins in North America, supports the sales, service and distribution of Perkins engines and parts through its approximately 100 dealers. Somers was part of team from Warren Equipment Company of Midland, Texas that formed in NorAm in January 2001. Prior to that he served as West Texas Caterpillar’s General Manager- Machine Ship Division. Somers is a business management graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.

Vessel Affected by Cyclone
Two vessels from the Australia based-Perkins Shipping fleet have found themselves at the mercy of tropical cyclone Craig. The master of the MV Balangut, a 1469 dwt tonne RoRo cargo vessel, reported his ship’s bow door had potentially been lost due to the heavy seas. The position puts the Balangut some 70 nautical miles north of Melville Island close to the center of Cyclone Craig, and she has been advised by Perkins’ Darwin office to continue to slowly steam north until such time as the storm abates. It is expected that the ship’s cargo may have suffered some damage but the master and all crew members are reported safe and well. The Balangut will be brought back to Darwin for repairs as soon as it is safe and appropriate.
Ingalls Shipbuilding Names Don Perkins VP
Huntington Ingalls Industries announced that Don Perkins has been named vice president of contracts and pricing for the company's Ingalls Shipbuilding division. Operationally, Perkins' organization is responsible for contract administration, proposal formulation, estimating, pricing, negotiations, contract awards and change orders, as well as management of contractual risks and mitigation strategies. Perkins' shipbuilding experience began with an apprenticeship program and comprises more than 30 years of his career, including seven years as contracts director at Ingalls from 2002 to 2009.
Caterpillar Buys Marine Engine Company
Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. bought closely held Sabre Engines Ltd., a U.K.-based company that specializes in high-performance marine diesel engines. Terms of the deal were not released. Caterpillar already sells 27 different engine models and sells more marine diesel engines over 250 bhp than any other manufacturer in the world. The addition of Sabre Engines Ltd. will add to Caterpillar's offering of marine power systems below 300 bhp. Sabre has had a cooperation agreement with small and medium industrial engine maker Perkins Engines Company Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar, since 1991. Under the agreement, Perkins sells core engines to Sabre for marinization.

Targa: Splitter, Terminal with Noble Still Under Consideration
Targa Resources Partners LP is working closely with Noble Group as Asia's biggest commodity trader evaluates whether to move forward a deal to support a Targa-built condensate splitter, a new terminal or both in Texas, Targa Chief Executive Joe Bob Perkins said on Tuesday. More than a year ago Noble signed on to support a new $115 million, 35,000 barrels per day (bpd) splitter at Targa's Channelview terminal on the Houston Ship Channel. The splitter would split the super-light crude oil into various components like naphtha and distillates that Noble would buy and sell. But Noble has come under scrutiny for its accounting methods after a little-known research firm and a short seller alleged the company inflated asset values and misled investors.

Commanding Officer Hands Over Reins of Cutter Escanaba
The commanding officer of the Boston-based Coast Guard Cutter Escanaba relieved of duties in a change of command on August 8, at the Coast Guard Integrated Support Command in the North End. Cmdr. James B. McPherson will relieve Cmdr. Brian D. Perkins as the commanding officer of the Escanaba in a formal ceremony presided over by Vice Adm. James D. Hull, operational commander of all Coast Guard activities on the East Coast and in the Gulf of Mexico. The ceremony restates the continuity of the commanding officer's authority and represents a total transfer of accountability from one individual to another. Perkins is transferring to the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., where he will assume the duties of the Coast Guard liaison officer to the Navy Warfare Command.
Algae-X Technology Now Available in Greece
Algae-X International announces its distribution agreement with Sun Sea Service. Based in Athens, Sun Sea Service is a sales and service center for several engine manufacturers including Volvo Penta, Yanmar and Perkins. Sun Sea Service also maintains over 950 recreational vessels, both private yachts and charter fleets. Sun Sea Service will introduce Algae-X Magnetic Fuel Conditioners and the AFC-705 Fuel Catalyst to its network of commercial marine customers and boat builders. Algae-X Fuel Conditioners will be installed in the fuel systems for new engine packages and retrofitted into existing engine installations for marine, power generation, trucking and transportation, construction, mining, Agriculture and other applications.
First of new VT Halmatic Nelson for Gibraltar Pilots
Following recent deliveries to the Spanish ports of La Coruna and Algeciras Gibraltar Pilots are the latest recipients of a new Optimised Nelson 35 Pilot Boat from VT Halmatic. A sister vessel for the same customer is in fit-out at VT Halmatic's Portchester Shipyard facility and another for Adour Pilots, France is being moulded. The Optimised 35 features a new resiliently mounted wheelhouse offering increased comfort and visibility for the two man crew and two pilots. Further benefits of the new isolated wheelhouse are the dramatically reduced levels of noise ( 75 db in the wheelhouse at maximum revs ) and vibration from the machinery space. Equipment levels have been significantly improved from that found on the previous Nelson 35 model.

Two of VT Halmatic's new Optimized 35 Pilot Boats entered service with the pilots of La Coruna and Algeciras. Based at opposite ends of Spain's Atlantic Coast these 35's join a list of VT Halmatic pilot boats operating on the Iberian Peninsula and Canary Islands. The Optimized 35 features a new resiliently mounted wheelhouse offering increased comfort and visibility for the two man crew and up to four pilots. The isolated wheelhouse helps to reduce levels of noise and vibration from the machinery space. Equipment levels have been significantly improved from that found on the previous model. The boats are powered by twin Perkins Sabre M215C or Caterpillar 3056TA diesel engines to give a 20-knot top speed on a 9.5 ton displacement.
Sperry Marine Name Revived
Corporate consolidations have, in the last 10 years, effectively consumed a number of "household" brand names as efforts were made to streamline the acquirer's letterhead. In a reversal, of sorts, Northrop Grumman Corporation gave a rebirth to a well-respected name in the marine business, saying that its marine systems business unit has been renamed Sperry Marine, effective immediately. Formerly Litton Marine, this commercial and defense-related marine electronics business was acquired by Northrop Grumman in its purchase of Litton Industries Inc., last year. Sperry Marine remains a business unit of the Baltimore, Md.-based Electronic Systems sector of Northrop Grumman.

Propulsion specialist REINTJES said it has opened a new branch office in the south of England to service markets in the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland. Opening of the REINTJES Britain & Ireland branch office follows on the cessation of trading by the former distributor European Marine and Machinery Agency in the middle of the year 2016. The business is guided by subsidiary REINTJES Benelux BVBA based in Antwerp, Belgium. Derecktor and Alaska Government Officials Sign Contract
Paul Derecktor, Alaska Governor Tony Knowles, State Department of Transportation Commissioner Joe Perkins and several Alaska State Officials were in attendance last week at the State Capitol in Juno, for the signature of the contract that entrusts Derecktor Shipyards with the construction of two new high-speed ferries for the Alaska Marine Highway System. This contract will be the first time a U.S. yard builds passenger-vehicle high-speed ferries. Until now the domain of overseas shipbuilders, the passenger-vehicle high-speed ferries have proven their worth in many countries around the world. The Jones Act requires that these boats servicing U.S. waters be built in the US.
New Offshore Terminal Designs May Expedite LNG Deliveries
In the wake of announcements by the Federal Reserve about the need for more natural gas, Saipem Group, Single Buoy Moorings, Bluewater Offshore, Spectrum Energy Services, Hoegh LNG and Aker Kvaerner will discuss radically new concepts for receiving terminals at an industry meeting in Houston, June 19 and 20. "The LNG industry has typically required at least five years to put new supply chains into place. With local community opposition to onshore terminals running high, these lead-times may grow even longer," said Bob Nimocks, president of Zeus Development Corporation, a company that is conducting industry research to investigate new designs.
