MARAD Awards Nearly $20 Mln for Small Shipyards

Two dozen small shipyards in the U.S. have received a combined $19.6 million through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) Small Shipyard Grant Program to help fund upgrades and expansions that often lead to more competitive operations, quality ship construction and improved employee skill.“This $19.6 million federal government investment in the nation’s small shipyards will help maintain the U. RCCL Taps SGS for Maintenance and Repair

Subsea Global Solutions (SGS) has entered into an agreement with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. (RCCL). Under the agreement SGS will provide underwater hull maintenance and repair services for their fleet of 58 ships trading under six different brands (Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity, Azamara, TUI, Silversea, and Pullmantur). Wärtsilä Closes Acquisition of SES

The technology group Wärtsilä strengthens its service offering by acquiring Ships Electronic Services Ltd (“SES”), a UK based company specializing in navigation and communication electronics, installation, maintenance and repair services, mainly for commercial and leisure vessels. The acquisition was signed and closed on 2 May 2019.SES, established in 1974, has its headquarters in Rochester and operates also out of nine other offices in the UK. The company, together with its wholly-owned subsidiary Greenham Regis Ltd, holds a strong local presence across the local marine service market. SES’ turnover is approximately GBP 10m and the company employs 47 staff. The enterprise value of the transaction is GBP 3.2m.

West Calcasieu Port Barge Basin Dredge Work Completed

Dredging operations in the West Calcasieu Port’s west barge basin were completed today and that all tenant operations in the basin have returned to full operations, port officials announced today.Coastal Dredging of Hammond, La., was the contractor on the $1.3 million maintenance dredging project that removed more than 140,000 cubic yards of spoils over a 10-week period.
