Russian flagged vessels in Russia to be managed by V. Group

V.Group has taken its first Russian flagged vessel into full technical management following earlier successful accreditation of the St.Petersburg office from the Russian Register. The ship management services, which will be delivered by V.Ships operations in Limassol and BGI crewing operations in St. Petersburg, are a significant milestone, marking V.Group’s entry into this market. Horizon Lines Wins RRF Contract

The U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (MarAd) announced Horizon Lines, LLC has been awarded a contract for ship management services for two of its Ready Reserve Force vessels. The Ready Reserve program operates cargo vessels to help supply U.S. military forces deployed in a combat theater. The Ocean Transportation Services (OTS) group of Horizon Lines operates the company's 16 commercial cargo container ships serving markets between the U.S. mainland and Alaska, Hawaii, Guam and Puerto Rico. Additionally, the OTS group provides ship management services to seven Oceanographic (T-AGS) vessels for the U.S. Military Sealift Command.

Ship Fix: Radio Holland Wins Ahrenkiel Steamship Deal

Ahrenkiel Steamship GmbH & Co. KG and Radio Holland Germany GmbH, part of Imtech Marine, have agreed a long-term maintenance agreement for the entire Ahrenkiel Steamship fleet, which comprises nearly 60 vessels. Based in Hamburg, Ahrenkiel Steamship Group is a leading, independent ship owner and provider of ship management services, with its roots dating back more than 150 years. In April 2014, the Christian F. Ahrenkiel Group merged with a joint venture established by the MPC Group, thereby pooling the fleet of Ahrenkiel Shipmanagement, MPC Steamship and Thien & Heyengathe fleet consisting of container vessels and bulk carriers.

V.Ships Wins Fortress Deal

V.Ships Offshore, part of V.Group has been awarded a ship management contract by Fortress Transportation and Infrastructure Investors LLC to provide full technical and crew management services for an advanced SURF/IMR vessel. The ship management services will be delivered from our newly acquired Bibby Ship Management office in Singapore led by Arvind Mohan. Nineteen specialised seafarers, with final complement subject to project requirements, are being deployed on board the 2014-built DP-3 vessel, Pride, which has been on charter in Malaysian waters.

Crowley Forms New Technical Services Business Unit

Crowley Maritime Corporation has formed a new non-asset, knowledge-based Technical Services business unit that will bring together the company's vessel construction and naval architecture, government services and ship management services. Crowley veteran Steve Collar has been appointed senior vice president and general manager of the enterprise. He will continue to work from the company's headquarters in Jacksonville and report to Tom Crowley, chairman, president and CEO. Collar, who joined the company in 1977 as a deckhand and most recently served as vice president of bulk petroleum and chemical transportation has the knowledge and experience to lead the unit.

Hong Kong Ship Managers Wallem Set Up Singapore Unit

Growth in specialist ship management services leads HK-based Wallem Group to open its first ship management & broking operation in Singapore. The move into Singapore comes six months after Wallem formed a ship management joint venture with mainland shipowner Nanjing Tanker in Singapore, reports the 'South China Morning Post). Captain Deepak Honawar, a director of Wallem Shipmanagement, considered that launching in Singapore would provide more space for the company to grow its Hong Kong ship management business. As a result, it was likely some of the ships currently managed from Hong Kong, along with technical staff, will be transferred to the Singapore operation, which will make room in HK for expansion.

E.R. Schiffahrt to Manage 3 More Maersk Ships

 Hamburg-based ship manager E.R. Schiffahrt informs it has been appointed by Maersk Line to manage three further vessels. With this new mandate, E.R. Schiffahrt increases the managed fleet for the world’s largest liner company from six to nine.   The new contract comprises the management of three 8,400 teu containerships and includes the crew and technical management, as well as additional services relating to safety/security, environmental protection and energy efficiency.    The 11-year-old container vessels will be bare boat chartered by Maersk and continue to be trading as Maersk Saigon, Maersk Stralsund and Maersk Seoul.   The ship management service began July 13, 2017. 

MOL Launches Ship Management, Training Businesses

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) today announced that the company has established MOL Synergy Marine (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. jointly with Synergy Group , a ship management services group in Chennai, India, to provide ship management and crew training services. MOL Synergy hosted its grand opening ceremony on October 8 and has since started managing five MOL-operated vessels and established a crew training center with latest technology simulators in Chennai. The center is equipped to train ship board crew in all aspects of ship operations including navigation, watch keeping, cargo handling and ship maintenance.

MAN G-Type Engine Achieves Type Approval

At the end of April, 2013 in Korea, MAN Diesel & Turbo’s latest G-type engine passed its Type Approval Test at HHI-EMD, the engine and machinery division of Hyundai Heavy Industries. Hi-speed Catamaran Charter Option Exercised by MSC

United States Military Sealift Command (MSC) exercise first of its three, six months options, for the ongoing charter of “WestPac Express”. The option forms part of a 24 month contract that Austal was awarded in December 2011. A 101 metre aluminium catamaran, â€śWestPac Express” has now been supporting the US Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan since July 2001 and has achieved virtually 100 per cent availability over that time. The Austal-managed charter operation includes in-service support, ship management services and integrated logistics support.

Third 14,000 TEU Container Joins Seaspan

Hong Kong-based owner and operator of containerships Seaspan Corporation has taken delivery of a 14,000 TEU containership, the YM Winner. The new ship, which was constructed at Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., is Seaspan’s third 14,000 TEU SAVER design containership and fourth delivery in 2015. The YM Winner will commence a ten-year, fixed-rate time charter with Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. The ship is the third of a total of eight 14000 TEU SAVER design vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to Yang Ming. The delivery of the YM Winner expands the Company's operating fleet to 81 vessels.

Drydocks World Allies with Ship Management Company

Drydocks World, whose business is in ship repair, conversion and new building, has announced that it has signed an Alliance Agreement  with EXMAR Shipmanagement, a company that offers high-end ship management services to the maritime industry. The two companies hope to strengthen their relationship on the basis of the new Alliance Agreement, and EXMAR Shipmanagement is expected to consider Drydocks World as preferred yard for all its ship repair and maintenance needs in the Middle East region. It should thus translate into an increased volume of business and further enhance co-operation over the near to medium term. Pirated Tankship Freed by Nigerian Navy

Pirates fled from 51,000 DWT tankship 'Abu Dhabi Star' after crew took refuge in 'citadel' while Nigerian Navy intervened. The Singapore-flagged product tanker 'Abu Dhabi Star' is operated by Pioneer Ship Management Services, and the attack occurred whilst the tanker was drifting approximately 14 miles off the port of Lagos. Reportedly the crew took refuge in the ship's citadel, requesting assistance. Later, Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said: "The company has informed MPA that the vessel and crew are now safe. There has been a significant increase in the number of pirate attacks in parts of West Africa. In some of the recent cases, the armed gangs tend to steal the cargo instead of seeking a hefty ransom before releasing the crew.

Martek Lands BNWAS deal for V.Ships’ Fleet

Martek Marine has secured a contract to supply its Navgard Bridge Navigation Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) to Seacom Electronics, the UK subsidiary of global ship management services giant V.Ships. Southampton-headquartered Seacom has placed an initial order for a Navgard BNWAS compliance package comprising a Navgard panel with two weatherproof external resets, an internal reset, three cabin alarms and four high intensity audio visual alarms. Martek will also deliver items including an illuminated push-button reset for the bridge, a bridge wing reset button, officer cabin alarm and a high intensity corridor audio-visual alarm. The initial contract is expected to be followed by orders for further packages to be installed on V.Ships’ vessels during the next three years.

Shipping Company and Chief Engineer Plead Guilty

Italian shipping company B. Navi Ship Management Services and Chief Engineer Dushko Babukchiev pleaded guilty in connection with the illegal dumping of oily sludge, bilge wastes and oil contaminated ballast water from one of the company’s ships, the M/V Windsor Castle, a 27,000 gross-ton bulk carrier vessel, Assistant Attorney General Ronald J. Tenpas, U.S. Attorney Donald J. DeGabrielle Jr., and U.S. Coast Guard Captain James E. Tunstall announced. B. Navi Ship Management Services pleaded guilty on Feb. 7, 2008, to a two-count criminal information charging it with violation of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (APPS) and making materially false statements to the U.S. Coast Guard. Chief Engineer Babukchiev pleaded guilty on Feb.
