Wärtsilä will supply the cargo handling and fuel supply systems for four new 40,000 m3 gas carrier vessels. The ships are being built at the CIMC SinoPacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) shipyard in China for Norwegian shipowner Avance Gas. The Wärtsilä LPG Fuel Supply System (LFSS) is a system that enables the use of LPG as fuel. This increases operational efficiency and supports environmental sustainability.These will be the first medium sized LPG carrier vessels built at the SOE yard.

Avenir LNG announced it has entered into a time charter party (TCP) with Shell for the newbuild 20,000-cubic-meter capacity liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering supply vessel Avenir Achievement.Avenir LNG, a joint venture between Stolt-Nielsen, Hoegh LNG and Golar LNG, said the time charter is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2023 and will run for a period of three years with an option to extend up to five years.Avenir Achievement is scheduled to be delivered from Chinese builder Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. MAN Energy Solutions won a contract to supply individual MAN B&W ME-LGIP (Liquid Gas Injection Propane) dual-fuel engines to three 5,000-cubiic-meter-capacity liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers currently under construction by CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. (CIMC-SOE) in Shanghai for German shipping company Hartmann Gas Carrier.Each newbuilding will receive a propulsion package featuring one 5S35ME-LGIP engine with an Alpha controllable pitch propeller, power take-off (PTO) and propulsion control system (PCS).

Bermuda registered Avenir LNG Limited announced that it has agreed with Keppel Singmarine to cancel the options to build its 3rd and 4th 7,500 cbm LNG carriers at Keppel Nantong.Avenir is scheduled to receive delivery of two 7,500 cbm LNGC’s, already on order, from Keppel Singmarine in December 2019 and March 2020.Avenir LNG Limited is a Bermuda registered company established for the purpose of developing the small scale global LNG market by sourcing, shipping, storing and distributing LNG to the end customer in areas of stranded demand.As reported two days ago, Avenir signed contracts with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. Bermuda registered Avenir LNG Limited has signed contracts with Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE) for the construction of two 7,500 cbm LNG carriers, at its Nantong, China shipyard, with options to build two more.Delivery of the two LNGC new buildings is scheduled for May and August 2021. The ships are designed to include ice class 1B, full bunker functionality, double hull and dual fuel electric twin azimuth propulsion. The order for the 7,500 cbm LNG ships replaces the previous option to build two additional ships with Keppel Singmarine which was cancelled by mutual agreement. Hartmann Reederei, the German ship-management company, has confirmed that two of its vessels – the 36,000 m3 LEG (liquefied ethylene gas) carriers Gaschem Beluga and Gaschem Orca – powered by the world’s first ME-GIE (-Gas Injection Ethane) two-stroke engines have collectively accumulated 10,000 hours of operations since entering operation at the end of 2017.The carriers were ordered by Hartmann and Ocean Yield of Norway, and constructed at Sinopacific Offshore Engineering (SOE)…

Chinese shipbuilder CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering Co. Ltd. (CIMC SOE) has completed the first two vessels in a series of five liquid ethylene gas (LEG) carrier newbuilds for a Chinese ship owner. The series includes two 17,000- and three 22,000-cubic-meter capacity LEG carriers, with the smaller two vessels named and one delivered during a ceremony on March 28. The delivery marks a significant occasion for the shipyard, which was reorganized in August 2017 after filing for bankruptcy in 2016.

Oldendorff Carriers has recently increased the number of owned bulk carriers in it Babycape segment by acquiring four more eco 119,000 tonners from compatriot shipowner Hartmann Reederei. The vessels are: MV UBC Ottawa   (tbrn: Roland Oldendorff), MV UBC Odessa  (tbrn: Rex Oldendorff), MV UBC Olimbus  (tbrn: Redmer Oldendorff) and MV UBC Oristano (tbrn: Rik Oldendorff). These ships were built for Hartmann at Sinopacific Shipbuilding in 2011. The acquisitions will increase our total operated Babycape fleet to around 36 units, of which 10 will be fully owned. Oldendorff Carriers  has been able to build a network of trades, which can take advantage of the large capacity that these vessels offer on any draft.

Diana Shipping Inc. today announced that, through a wholly-owned subsidiary, it provided a notice of cancellation of the shipbuilding contract with Yangzhou Dayang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Sinopacific International Trade Co., Ltd., dated January 8, 2014 (the “Contract”), and Addendum No. 1 to the Contract dated April 21, 2014 with Sumec Marine Co., Ltd. with respect to a Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier, Hull No. DY6006, with an original delivery date of May 31, 2016. CIMC Enric, an affiliate company of China International Marine Containers (CIMC), has announced that it has terminated the acquisitions of Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering (SOE), the offshore unit of Sinopacific Shipbuilding. CIMC Enric said the Board decided not to proceed with the proposed acquisition of the entire equity interest of SinoPacific Offshore & Engineering Co., Ltd. as certain conditions precedent have not been fulfilled or waived. Last year, CIMC  has struck a deal with Evergreen Holding and its subsidiaries to acquire Nantong SOE for at least CNY700 million (USD109 million) in cash and shares. In the meantime, the Board is considering various alternatives in protecting the rights and values of the Group's interests in the target company…

Ballast water treatment (BWT) system Optimarin has picked up an order covering 15 vessels from VARD shipyards. The vessels, VARD 9 21 Design specialist module carriers, will be constructed for ship owner Topaz at two shipyards in Romania - Vard Braila and Vard Tulcea – and one in Vietnam, Vard Vung Tau. “VARD knows our systems well, having installed some 55 units on their newbuildings across the world since 2011,” said Optimarin CEO, Tore Andersen. “They choose us for our expertise and commitment to absolute compliance…

Ballast water treatment (BWT) system specialist Optimarin said it has completed the U.S. Coast Guard’s (USCG) environmental test and all land-based and shipboard testing for marine, brackish and fresh water. It is understood to be the first supplier of UV-based BWT technology to satisfy the USCG’s CMFDA testing criteria. Optimarin has specialized in environmentally friendly UV treatment technology for the past 22 years, installing the world’s first ever commercial system in 2000 on the cruise ship Princess Regal.

Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) has completed the world’s first ME-GIE ethane-operated two-stroke diesel engine. The engines will be for propulsion of three ethylene carriers, which will also carry ethane as cargo. The Mitsui-MAN B&W 7G50ME-C9.5-GIE is the first engine in a series of three for installation in three LEG (liquefied ethylene gas) carriers of 36,000 m3 for Hartmann Schiffahrt of Germany and Ocean Yield of Norway, being built at Sinopacific Offshore Engineering (SOE) in China. MAN Diesel & Turbo reports that ethane was chosen as fuel, in preference to HFO, due to its more competitive pricing as well as the significantly shorter bunkering time it entails.

In the Babycape segment, Oldendorff's London office usually operates around 30 vessels in its global network of trades. The company informed that it likes to have some owned vessels in every segment in which it operates to ensure more reliable and flexible service. The Babycape vessels were purchased from companies managed by Hartmann Reederei (Leer) and Thomas Schulte (Hamburg), and join three other Babycapes in the Oldendorff fleet which were  bought in summer 2016. The 119,000 tonners were built at Sinopacific, China and feature an attractive cargo intake at 14.5 m draft, Mewis fuel saving ducts, ballast water treatment systems, as well as Korean built B&W main engines and auxiliary engines. The Emma Schulte was delivered from Jiangnan, China in 2012.
