Aker Solutions, Siemens Join Forces To Strengthen Digital Offerings
Norway's Aker Solutions has forged an alliance with the German technology giant Siemens to further develop digital offerings in engineering, operations and services.The global engineering company based in Oslo said that the collaboration focuses on the creation of software applications and joint service offerings including the development of industrial digital twins that will drive efficiency throughout the entire plant lifecycle.In addition, the companies will further develop specific offerings for the oil and gas sector based on Siemens' Comos engineering platform.
Carnival Unveils Miami Fleet Operations Center
Carnival Cruise Line has previewed its new Fleet Operations Center (FOC) in Miami, the largest and most advanced in the cruise industry. The 35,000-square-foot facility is custom-designed for hands-on, around-the-clock monitoring and support of the line's 26 cruise ships. The Carnival Cruise Line FOC is the first facility of its kind in South Florida and features a state-of-the-art tracking and data-analysis platform that enables real-time information sharing between Carnival ships and specialized shoreside teams designed to support fleet operations.

LR, ABS Join Forces to Deliver New Generation CSR software
Common Structural Rules Software LLC, (CSRS) a joint venture company formed by Lloyd's Register (LR) and ABS, has released new software tools for meeting the requirements of the IACS Common Structural Rules (CSR), which entered into force on 1 July 2015. Developed from the technical strengths of LR and ABS, version 2.5 of the CSR Prescriptive Analysis and the new CSR Finite Element (FE) Analysis software, allow assessment of whole vessel structures, including new bulk carrier and oil tanker designs. Both class societies will use these new tools to evaluate new designs to the CSR.
SevenCs Supports MariGreen Project

Lamprell to Implement Software for Automated Manufacturing
U.A.E based offshore jackup rig builder Lamprell Energy Ltd., will implement SSI's EnterprisePlatform software solution to allow its engineering team to automate manufacturing processes. Acording to SSI (developer of ShipConstructor software), the immediate benefit will come from streamlining and automating Lamprell's processes used to control robotic machinery on the production floor (e.g. CNC Profiling Machines) based on information from the engineering department's ShipConstructor-based product data model.

SSI has written a new paper about how the shipbuilding industry can leverage engineering information to increase productivity and quality in the design office as well as in the shipyard. The paper, Leveraging Engineering Information, written by Denis Morais, Mark Waldie and Darren Larkins, will be presented at the May 12-14, 2014 Conference on Computer Applications and Information Technology in the Maritime Industries (COMPIT), held at Redworth, U.K. The paper ties together the topics of several recent posts on the Waveform blog written by SSI CTO Denis Morais.

According to SSI, ShipConstructor 2015 contains several new catalogs, an augmentation SSI claims is of immediate benefit, as they will help users quickly and accurately model components to correct specifications. These catalog additions and changes include the following XML standard templates: PipeCatalog-ASME-CarbonSteel.XML, ImperialWeldStandards.XML and MetricWeldStandards.XML. According to SSI, of particular note are the details related to the addition of the catalog for ASME Carbon Steel Pipe.
