Svanehøj Unveils High-pressure Marine Pump Unit for LNG Fuel

Denmark-based marine pump specialist Svanehøj said Wednesday it can now offer a high-pressure pump solution for two-stroke engines as demand for LNG-fueled vessels remains high.The company describes its solution as a compact unit with three combined cold ends designed for optimal flow and longer service intervals.High-pressure LNG engines offer lower fuel consumption and significantly reduced methane slips. G2 Ocean Adds Two More Ammonia-ready Vessels to Its Fleet

Gearbulk and Grieg Maritime Group joint venture G2 Ocean is adding two more ammonia-ready 82,300 dwt open hatch vessels to its fleet. Chinese shipbuilder CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Longxue will build the vessels for scheduled delivery in 2026.Following its commitment to only purchase newbuilt vessels with zero-emission technology, Grieg signed a contract in May 2023 with the shipyard CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Longxue which included two firm plus two optional 82,300 deadweight tonne (dwt) ammonia-ready open hatch vessels. Last week, Grieg exercised its option for the two additional vessels.

Shuttle Tanker Eagle Colombo Delivered to AET

Shipping company AET on Wednesday took delivery of Eagle Colombo, its latest second generation dynamic positioning shuttle tanker (DPST) from Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).The Singapore-registered newbuild is the third and final vessel in a HHI-built series to be operated on long-term charter to Shell in Brazil.AET struck a deal with Shell in December 2019 to operate the three shuttle tankers in the international and Brazilian Basin on a long-term charter.

Tanker operator AET has taken delivery of Eagle Campos, the first of another three Suezmax Dynamic Positioning (DP2) Shuttle Tankers purpose built for long-term charter to Brazil Shipping I Limited, a subsidiary of Shell.Shuttle tankers are used for the offloading and transporting oil from offshore oil installations.AET struck a deal with Shell in December 2019 to operate these three Suezmax DP2 shuttle tankers in the international and Brazilian Basin on a long-term charter with Eagle Campos being the first in this series.

Eastern Shipbuilding Group conducted the keel laying for the new trailing suction hopper dredge (TSHD) it is building for Weeks Marine.This new U.S. flag dredge R.B. Dredging contractor Weeks Marine has ordered a new trailer suction hopper dredger from Eastern Shipbuilding Group, to be delivered in the first quarter of 2023.The new dredge, RB Weeks, to be constructed at Eastern's Allanton shipyard in Panama City, Fla. will be a sister ship to the Eastern-built twin screw TSHD Magdalen placed into service in 2018. The RB Weeks is named after the co-founder of the company and the husband of Magdalen Weeks.The shipbuilding order, signed on April 16, 2020, adds to billions of dollars in capital investments made recently by the U.S.

Damen Develops BWT Ex Deckhouse

Dutch shipbuilding and engineering conglomerate Damen Group said that it has developed standard Ballast Water Treatment Ex certified deckhouses that can withstand slamming of waves.The deckhouses can be placed on the open deck of a tanker vessel, it said in a press release.Since a container construction is not designed to withstand the forces of wave slamming on the open deck of a tanker vessel. Damen has developed a deckhouse with an eight millimeter wall thickness that is able to withstand wave slamming forces. Fully meeting the requirements of the classification societies.Each deckhouse is delivered as a pre-assembled solution, including the ballast water treatment system with all internal piping and wiring, for easy integration into the vessel.

Heinen & Hopman Wins TT-Line Contract for HVACR

Heinen & Hopman, the provider of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVACR) for the marine industry, was awarded the contract to supply the HVACR and refrigeration for a 230M RoPax ferry, to be built for TT-Line.The German ferry operator TT-Line possesses six ferries operating in the Baltic Sea. Expecting a growing demand for short sea transport in the Baltic Sea, TT-Line decided to invest in its fleet to meet their customers’ needs by offering a modern and comfortable journey.TT-Line’s newest ferry will be powered by LNG  but will be able to run on diesel as well. The ferry has 50% less emissions compared to the previous generation of vessels.The ferry will be built at Jinling Shipyard, located in Jiangsu, China.

Schoellhorn-Albrecht Deck Machinery for Ice Breaking Tug

Schoellhorn-Albrecht recently completed a contract to design and manufacture a Vertical Anchor Windlass and Thru Deck Capstan for St. Lawrence Seaways newest Ice Breaking Tug.The windlass was designed to ABS standards for a minimum design temperature of -25F°. Testing and certification was witnessed by ABS in our St. Louis facility. The Thru-Deck Capstan features a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) control package, a right angle drive gearbox, 20 HP marine duty motor and 18” diameter barrel.

Ship Repair: Damen Wins Stena Don Refit Contract

Damen Verolme Rotterdam (DVR) won a contract by Stena Drilling for a refit of its drilling rig Stena Don. The vessel is scheduled to arrive at the yard in October 2018 and is expected to remain there for around three months. The most significant aspect of the works will be the installation of an eight-point mooring system prior to the rig being deployed off the UK’s Shetland Islands.In advance of the vessel's arrival, preparations are already underway at the yardto ensure that the installation of the mooring system can begin as soon as the Stena Don arrives at the yard.

Rapp Marine to Equip New OSU Research Vessel

Rapp Marine said it has been selected by Gulf Island Shipyard, LLC, as the Overboard Handling System Single Source Vendor (OHS SSV) for Oregon State University’s (OSU) 193 ft x 41 ft multi-mission Regional Class Research Vessel (RCRV), with the option of two additional vessels. Funding for the RCRV project is provided by the National Science Foundation (NSF), and the contract design of the RCRV was developed by Glosten. The first vessel is currently under construction at Gulf Island Shipyard in Houma, La.

Weeks Marine Takes Delivery of Hopper Dredge Magdalen

Weeks Marine’s new self-propelled hopper dredge, Magdalen, was delivered by Eastern Shipbuilding on December 22 following sea trials and regulatory inspections. The newbuild is one of the two newest, and among the largest hopper dredges in the U.S., and will bring formidable pumping power to offload beach quality sand or other materials for land reclamation. On December 28, the new dredger sailed from Eastern's Allanton facility in Panama City, Fla. on her maiden voyage to the East Coast.

Washburn & Doughty Wins Hybrid Tug Orders

East Boothbay, Maine based Washburn & Doughty said it has secured a contract with Harbor Docking and Towing, of Lake Charles, La., to design and build two 93’ x 38’ Hybrid Z Drive Tugs. The 93’ x 38’ hull is a proven design with 18 tugs in operation and 4 under construction. The vessel will be built as a Harbor Assist Vessel as defined in USCG Subchapter M and admeasure less than 200 gross tons U.S. regulatory tonnage. Moose Boats Building a New Fire Boat for Maryland

California based boat builder Moose Boats said it was awarded a contract from North Beach Volunteer Fire Department in Chesapeake Beach, Md., for the construction of a M1-46 Fire Rescue Catamaran. North Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Calvert County, Md. jointly funded the purchase of the new Moose Boat which will respond to incidents on the majority of the western shores of the Chesapeake Bay. Twin Cummins QSC8.3 600hp turbo diesel propulsion engines, Twin Disc 5075SC transmissions and Hamilton HJ322 water-jets will power the M1-46 aluminum catamaran. North Beach VFD’s new M1 Moose Boat will be equipped with a Hale fire pump flowing 2,500 gallons per minute of fire suppression water, Task Force Tips fire monitors and valves and firefighting foam storage.
