Maritime Activity Reports, Inc.

September 9, 2014

A number of orders are reported by Clarkson Hellas in their latest S&P Weekly Bulletin, with contracts being signed across the Dry Bulk, Tanker and Container markets.

Dry bulk carriers
Activity has been focused amongst the small/midsized vessels with Empros Lines reported to have signed up for a pair of 63,000 dwt Ultramax bulkers at Imabari. Delivery of both vessels is scheduled in 2016.

Inui Steamship meanwhile are reported to have turned to Onomichi Dockyard for one 60,000 dwt bulker with delivery much later in early 2018.

In amongst the smaller handysizes, Nissen Kaiun K.K. are understood by Clarkson Hellas to have placed an order at Shikoku dock for a pair of 34,500 dwt Handysize bulk carriers, which are the 2nd and 3rd vessels in this series on order and will deliver in 2016 and 2017.

Finally, there were a number of contracts that came to light this week at Namura, albeit these are understood, say Clarkson Hellas to have been signed earlier this year in June: Chowgule Steamships are understood to have ordered 2 x 34,00 dwt Handysize bulkers at the yard, delivering on 2016 and 2017 respectively, whilst Blumenthal are understood to have further extended their series on order with one additional 34,000 dwt handy, due to deliver in 2H 2017. This will be the third vessel in the series for Blumenthal.

Tankships
In the tanker market, Clarkson Hellas now understand that the buyer of the 1+1 x 37,000 dwt Bitumen Carriers at HMD (as reported last week) is existing client Wisby Tankers. As mentioned these vessels will deliver in 2017 and pricing is estimated to stand in the region of USD 50 Mill.

Separately, Samos Steamship are reported to have signed a single 29,000 dwt product tanker at Onomichi dockyard with delivery scheduled in 2018.

Containerships
Finally in the Container market, the Scorpio group are understood to have placed an order with Samsung H.I. for 3 + 3 x 19,200 TEU Container carriers.

These vessels are some of the largest container carriers currently on order and are understood to have been contracted at a price in the region of USD 155 Mill. These are believed to have been ordered against charter to MSC and the delivery of the firm vessels is provisionally scheduled to begin from Mid 2016. The options will be delivering into 2017.
