Two New Vessels Enter Service for Boskalis
Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. informed that Dockwise vessel White Marlin was named and christened during a ceremony in Guangzhou, China. The semi-submersible heavy transport vessel will be mobilized to Singapore for its maiden transport of two drilling rigs for discharge in Abu Dhabi. With its overall length of 216 meters, beam of 63 meters and deadweight of 72,000 metric tons, the White Marlin type I vessel strengthens Dockwise’s position in the heavy marine dry transport market.

Transmission Replacements Save New Workboats
A pair of newly-built workboats, 26' mooring boats Chbika and Naila, were built to operate in Tangier, Morocco, but were unable to maneuver as required, having particular difficulty running at slow speeds with their original transmissions and ended up failing sea trials. The owner refused delivery of the vessels and told the builder to correct the problem. Unsuccessful after numerous modifications, the propulsion engineer contacted Twin Disc distributor Esco Transmissions.

Damen Delivers First of New Tug Class
Damen Shipyards Group has delivered the first vessel in its new ASD Tug 2913 class. According to Damen, the 2913 has been developed in response to demand from operators for more powerful tugs capable of handling today’s larger vessels. As well as having a bollard pull of 80 metric tons and total power of 5,050 BKw, the new tug is 29 meters in length and highly maneuverable, making it suited for operations in busy harbors where space is limited.
