4,700 Migrants Rescued off Libya Coast
Nearly 4,700 migrants were rescued off the coast of Libya on Saturday as they tried to reach Europe but one woman was found dead, Italy's coastguard said. Tens of thousands of people, mainly from Africa and the Middle East, have tried to cross the Mediterranean this year, often dangerously packed into small vessels unsuitable for the voyage. Long Beach Port Weighs Options to Enhance Efficiency
The Port of Long Beach today announced plans to seek new ways to use a largely undeveloped 150-acre pier to help move cargo more efficiently as the Port continues to welcome increasing trade. Injured Fisherman Medevaced from Midway Atoll
A 46-year-old man is receiving treatment in Oahu after being medevaced from Midway Atoll, Saturday. The Hercules crew flew more than 1,300 miles from Oahu to Midway to complete the medevac. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Command Center Honolulu received a medevac request from the Chinese-flagged fishing vessel Kiafuhao regarding an injured crewmember. The duty Coast Guard flight surgeon was briefed and recommended a medevac based on the patient’s condition.
Seaspan Acquires Eighth Boxship
Seaspan Corporation announced today that it accepted delivery of a 10000 TEU containership, the Maersk Guayaquil. The new containership, which was constructed at Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., is Seaspan's eighth 10000 TEU SAVER design containership and seventh delivery in 2015. The Maersk Guayaquil will commence a five-year, fixed-rate time charter with Maersk Line A/S. Maersk may extend the charter with two consecutive one-year options.
