Singapore-issued CoCs need Revalidation
Holders of Singapore-issued certificates of competency (CoCs) need to revalidate their CoCs to meet the requirements of the 2010 Manila amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW2010) and to be able to serve on board a ship. CoCs issued by Singapore in compliance with the 1995 amendments to the STCW are valid up to 31 December 2016.
Moody Upgrades Port of Palm Beach
The Port of Palm Beach District announced that Moody’s Investors Service, Inc. upgraded the Port of Palm Beach District senior rating to Baa3 from Ba1, and reported the outlook to be stable. The report, released October 2, 2015, documented the port’s strengths, challenges and recent developments as the agency’s rationale for the ratings upgrade. The upgrade to Baa3 recognizes the port’s sustained financial improvement due to successful contract renewals with its largest customers.

Seaspan Acquires Sixth 14000 TEU Boxship
Seaspan Corporation announced today that it accepted delivery of a 14000 TEU containership, the YM Warmth. The new containership, which was constructed at Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., is Seaspan's sixth 14000 TEU SAVER design containership and eighth delivery in 2015. The YM Warmth will commence a ten-year, fixed-rate time charter with Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. ("Yang Ming"). Yang Ming may extend the charter for up to an additional two years.

China Completes lighthouses construction in disputed South China Sea
China has completed the construction of two lighthouses in the disputed South China Sea, the official Xinhua news agency reported, as tensions in the region mount over Beijing's maritime ambitions. A completion ceremony was held for the lighthouses on Huayang Reef and Chigua Reef in the Spratly islands, Xinhua said late on Friday. The United States and the Philippines have opposed the construction.
Cutter Diligence to Return
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence is scheduled to return to their homeport in Wilmington Saturday following a 45-day patrol in the Caribbean Sea.
