Port Community System Unveiled at Dubai Seminar
An electronic port community system to make all trading transactions paperless in Algerian ports based on the Dubai Trade portal has been unveiled at a major seminar in Dubai on investment opportunities in the country. The new system will be introduced under a joint venture agreement signed today between DP World, Dubai Trade, the ports of Algiers, Oran and Skikda, offering integrated electronic services from various trade and logistics service providers under a single window.
Gemini Foundations Installed in Record time
Van Oord has completed the installation of the 150th foundation at the Gemini Wind Park in a record time of 3.5 months. On the 1st of July 2015 Van Oord’s own installation vessel Aeolus, together with Swire Blue Oceans Pacific Osprey, started installation and the last foundation was installed on the 17th of October. The installation of the foundations was completed one month earlier than scheduled.
MSC Withdraws Great Sea Service
MSC announced today, the withdrawal of their ‘Great Sea’ service that operates between Asia and the Black Sea. The service will cease operation on Asia export sailings from the first week of November. The string currently operates nine vessels with a nominal capacity of 5,500 TEU. “The decision to withdraw this service is due to unexpectedly low demand out of Asia. We have to adapt our capacity to the demand in these difficult times,” commented Caroline Becquart, Senior Vice President of MSC.
CNO, MCPON Visit Sailors in U.S. 5th Fleet
The Navy's 31st Chief of Naval Operations (CNO), Adm. John Richardson, made his first visit to the U.S. 5th Fleet, accompanied by Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy (MCPON) Mike Stevens at Naval Support Activity (NSA) Bahrain, Oct. 18. AOA Calls for Southern Ocean Conservation Commitments
The Antarctic Ocean Alliance (AOA) called on the 25 member countries gathering today for the annual meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) to finally agree on lasting and significant Southern Ocean protection. Meiji Shipping Expands with Four New Tankers
Mumbai-based ship management company MMS Maritime India has announced it is to begin a major recruitment drive for Indian seafarers, after its parent company, the Japanese ship owner Meiji Shipping Group unveiled an expansion of its tanker fleet. MMSI provides crew to Meiji’s oil and gas tanker division which numbers 19 ships. MMSI CEO Dr Sanjay Bhavnani said he expected four new tankers to be delivered to Meiji by the beginning of 2016.

SCA Decries Linkage of Jones Act to El Faro Tragedy
