Emac Initiates Maritime Sector Discussions
The Emirates Maritime Arbitration Centre, Emac, last week met with senior executives in two key meetings in Fujairah, as part of its commitment to work with key industry bodies in the region’s maritime sector, Emirates News Agency WAM has reported. In the first meeting, the EMAC delegation discussed boosting cooperation with Port of Fujairah General Manager, Captain Mousa Murad, and Harbour Master, Captain Tamer Masoud, to support further growth of the maritime sector in the emirate.

Ferbec Officially Joins Canada Steamship Fleet
Canada Steamship Lines welcomed M.V. Ferbec, a 49,502 DWT conventional geared bulk carrier equipped with four cranes and grabs, which is now fully operational in the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. The vessel, which previously operated in CSL’s Australian fleet as CSL Melbourne, is the largest vessel of its type in the Canadian domestic shipping market. Upon arrival in Québec City on May 13, 2017, the vessel underwent modifications to adapt to its new operating environment.

USS America Concludes Support to USS John S. McCain
The amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) and 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit departed Singapore after supporting the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) Aug. 27. America will continue on its maiden deployment. While in Singapore, Sailors and Marines aboard America provided initial support for the McCain crew to include berthing for 155 Sailors, daily supplies, counseling, medical/dental services and communications network support.

Wärtsilä to Provide Solutions to Six Feeder Vessel Newbuilds
The technology group Wärtsilä will supply an extensive range of products and solutions for six new 1160TEU container feeder vessels to be built at the Fujian Mawei shipyard in China. The project has been developed by MarLink Project Management GmbH in Germany together with various investors. This series of state-of-the-art container ships has been designed by German design office abh Ingenieur-Technik GmbH. There are options for a further six vessels.

Brazil to Stop Beaching Ships in South Asia
Brazilian authorities plan to implement legislation to help prevent that vessels owned by exporters such as Petrobras and Vale wind up on South Asia's beaching yards, Bloomberg reported.
