Biscay Storm Lost Containers Sighted, One Lands on UK Beach
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) was informed that a number of containers were lost from a Maersk cargo ship as it crossed the northern stretches of the Bay of Biscay in stormy conditions on 14, February 2014. Some have now been spotted and one has been washed ashore reports the agency in an update. CAMAC Contracts FPSO for Offshore Nigeria
CAMAC Energy Inc. announced that a long-term contract has been signed for the floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) Armada Perdana. The contract provides for an initial term of five years beginning January 1, 2014, with an automatic extension for an additional two years unless terminated by CAMAC with prior notice. The company plans to utilize the FPSO for its multiyear, high-impact development and production operations in Nigeria.

Panama Canal Locks Project Work Resumes
The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said that Grupo Unidos por el Canal. S.A. (GUPC) has resumed work on the new locks project during the afternoon of Thursday, February 20. “Works have restarted this afternoon,” said Panama Canal Administrator Jorge L. Quijano. Since works have resumed, ACP will proceed to pay tomorrow GUPC the $36.8 million due for December invoices. This preliminary agreement to resume works does not imply a negotiation on the alleged cost overruns claimed by the contractor.

Greek Frigate Joins EU Counter Piracy Operation
Hellenic Navy warship, HS Psara joined EU Naval Force Somalia, Operation Atalanta Wednesday, February 20. The Greek Navy frigate left the Salamina Naval Base on Thursday, February 13. HS Psara will be part of the EU’s counter-piracy operation in the Horn of Africa and Western Indian Ocean for a period of three months. The warship previously participated in EU Naval Force between December 2008 to April 2009. HS Psara is a Hydra class frigate and was commissioned into the Greek Navy in 1998.
