First Order for Wärtsilä Slop Water Treatment
The new Wärtsilä slop water treatment system has been ordered for an ultra-deep water drill ship operating in the Gulf of Mexico, marking the first for Wärtsilä’s new system. The contract was signed in the end of 2013. The Wärtsilä slop water treatment system is designed to treat and clean water contaminated with slop or drilling mud. For operators, large volumes of slop mud result in enormous disposal expenses and represent a potentially significant environmental issue.

First of 10 Utility Vessels Delivered
Incat Crowther announced the first deliveries of a 10-boat order for 42m Infield Utility Vessels to Brunei’s PTAS Marine. Developed in conjunction with builder Strategic Marine, the project called upon Incat Crowther’s track record in steel crew boats to meet strict performance criteria. PTAS has been contracted by Brunei Shell Petroleum to build and operate nine vessels to support their offshore platforms for a period of ten years.

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation (GLDD) says it has signed an US$89 million contract with the City of Decatur (IL) to provide dredging services to increase the capacity of Lake Decatur. Lake Decatur, the largest lake on the Sangamon River, was created after the river was dammed in 1922. The reservoir serves as the primary raw water source for Decatur’s 76,000 residents and large industrial sector.

The Nigerian Ship Owners Association, NSA, has informed that some of its members are currently grappling with huge financial indebtedness to some banks, which has been aggregated at over $3billion (N480bn) reports the country's National Mirror. NSA, formerly known as the Indigenous Shipowners Association of Nigeria ISAN, is the umbrella body for all fully Nigerian- owned shipping firms made up of over 40 companies, most of which have closed down or at the verge of being closed down.
Sunken Car Carrier to be Salvaged by Boskalis Partnership
Boskalis inform that the Dutch Department of Public Works intends to award the contract for the salvage of the wreck of the car carrier 'Baltic Ace' to Boskalis and its partner Mammoet Salvage. Boskalis explain that the wreck and its cargo need to be removed because they pose a threat to the environment and to shipping on the busy route towards the Port of Rotterdam. The Department of Public Works expects the definitive signing of the contract in the second half of March 2014.
Oceanteam Buys Out KCI Design Engineers
Norway-based Oceanteam Shipping says it has exercised its option to buy the remaining 30% shares of KCI design engineers, a multi-discipline engineering company, employing over 150 engineers with offices in Schiedam, The Netherlands and Hamburg, Germany. As a result of this transaction, Oceanteam is now the 100% strategic owner of KCI design engineers. The shares were bought from the previous management team at confidential terms.

Lockheed Martin says it has signed a contract with Victorian Wave Partners Ltd. to begin developing the world’s largest wave energy project yet. The 62.5-megawatt peak power wave energy generation project will be built off the coast of Victoria, Australia, using Ocean Power Technologies' (OPT) PowerBuoy® wave energy converter technology. The company’s PowerBuoy wave generation technology uses a "smart," ocean-going buoy to convert wave energy into low-cost, clean electricity.

Incat Crowther say they supported Strategic Marine in their winning technical proposal for the construction of ten 42m Infield Utility Vessels (IUV) for Brunei's PTAS Marine, and the first boat has now been delivered. Strategic Marine called in Incat to assist in their technical proposal for the project, committing to a timeframe of just 15 months from contract signing to the delivery of the ninth vessel. The tenth boat will be retained by PTAS as a backup vessel throughout the contract period.
