Signet Shipbuilding & Repair, (SS&R) a division of Signet Maritime Corporation announced the purchase and operation commencement of its newest heavy lift crane for new construction and repair. The 150-ton crawler crane will be utilized for hauling small vessels and barges from the water and loading/offloading marine equipment while vessels are dockside. Signet Shipbuilding & Repair specializes in new construction, repair, maintenance and refurbishment of tugs, workboats and barges.

Records set in containers moved, total tonnage, and truck and intermodal moves made August an impressive month for the Georgia Ports Authority, Executive Director Curtis Foltz reported to the GPA board Monday. “Although we set new records in many categories during August, challenges remain in many of the global markets important to future trade volumes,” Foltz said. Total tonnage in August reached 2.5 million tons, up 8.5% over the previous August, an increase of 196,674 tons.

The crew of Singaporean cargo ship 'Sima Sapphire' which collided a Vietnamese fishing vessel leaving 3 dead and 5 missing will be prosecuted since data from the ship's black box incriminates its crew, according to the Vietnam Government. The Sima Sapphire was on voyage to Malaysia from Ho Chi Minh City when it collided with a Vietnamese fishing vessel from the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, which was returning to shore with 16 persons onboard.
