Canada’s Largest Con/Ro Vessel Delivered
The largest Canadian Flag Con/Ro ship will set sail tomorrow from Flensburg, Germany destined for St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Following a series of successful sea trials, Oceanex Inc. accepted delivery of the vessel today as originally scheduled. The Oceanex Connaigra is expected to arrive in St. John’s next weekend, where it will stay for a few days before sailing to Halifax to work the Halifax service while the Oceanex Sanderling completes a short dry dock.

EU, Seychelles Complete Search and Rescue Exercise
On 26 September, the Seychelles Peoples Defense Force, Coast Guard and Air Force, together with the EU Naval Force (EU NAVFOR) Somalia Operation Atalanta and EUCAP Nestor, carried out a search and rescue exercise in Seychelles waters. The operation was coordinated centrally by the Seychelles Coast Guard Maritime Operation Center and held in conjunction with the port visit of the Dutch EU NAVFOR flagship, HNLMS Johan de Witt, to the Seychelles.

Towed RoRo Too Tall, Hits Florida River Bridge
The U.S. Coast Guard has closed a portion of the St. Johns River in Jacksonville, Fla., after the 'USNS 1st Lt. Harry L. The RoRo vessel was being towed from its home pier in Jacksonville to the North Florida Ship Yard for normal dock and maintenance work. There were no injuries reported. Boatcrews from Coast Guard Station Mayport and other law enforcement agencies are currently enforcing a 200-yard safety zone on both sides of the bridge.

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans has elected Daniel F. Packer chairman; also Gregory Rusovich as Vice Chairman, and Scott Cooper as Secretary-Treasurer. Gov. Bobby Jindal appointed Mr. Packer to the Board in January of 2010. He succeeds Mr. Joseph F. Toomy, whose term as chairman expired this month but will continue to serve as a commissioner.
