Maersk Awarded Three MSC Contracts
In the first contract, Maersk Line, Ltd., Norfolk, Va., is being awarded a $31,817,327 modification to a previously awarded contract to exercise the third 12-month option period for the operation and maintenance of five government-owned Maritime Prepositioning Force ships: USNS 2ND LT John P. Bobo (T-AK 3008), USNS SGT William R. Button (T-AK 3012), USNS 1ST LT Baldomero Lopez (T-AK 3010), USNS 1ST LT Jack Lummus (T-AK 3011) and USNS PFC Dewayne T. Williams (T-AK 3009).

The vessel caught fire while in sea-borne mode, and the 30 passengers and crew evacuated into waist deep water between Lambeth Bridge and Westminster Bridge. Soon afterwards, three commercial RHIBs nearby attended and recovered people from the water and landed them at a nearby pontoon. London Fire Brigade’s boat was also on scene and the fire was extinguished. Tower and Chiswick RNLI lifeboats and the Police helicopter searched the water to ensure nobody was unaccounted for in the water.

New Industries, Inc., of Morgan City, La. completed the fabrication of two 18' diameter x 223'-9" long pressure vessels for Conrad Shipyard, LLC, also of Morgan City. New Industries, Inc. has fabricated 56 LPG tanks ranging in size from 14’ -10” diameter x 180’ long x 240 tons to 18’ diameter x 223’ long x 430 tons. Currently, New Industries’ backlog on LPG tanks stretches into the 2nd quarter of 2014.

A Coast Guard aircrew medevaced a 45-year-old crewman from a 100-foot shrimper approximately 60 miles south of Intracoastal City in the Gulf of Mexico, Thursday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a request from the fishing vessel Poncho at approximately 5 p.m. reporting a crewman was experiencing stroke-like symptoms. Sector New Orleans directed the launch of a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans to launch.
