Balpure BWTS Receives USCG Certification
The IMO Type-Approved Balpure ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora has become one of the first ballast water treatment technologies to receive the United States Coast Guardâs (USCG) Alternate Management System (AMS) certification. AMS certification identifies an IMO Type-Approved system that meets the USCG requirements. Maritime Safety Committee adopted the Code on Noise Levels on board Ships, Resolution MSC.337(91), commonly referred to as the Noise Code. Cruise Season Gets Underway in the Port of Kiel
âAIDAcaraâ is first to call at the Ostseekai Terminal. The 2013 cruise shipping year opened in Kiel on April 13 when the first ship of the season, AIDAcara, arrived at the Ostseekai from Dover. She berthed at around 0900 at the cruise shipping terminal after earlier being treated to a water fountain display from an SFK tug when she left the Kiel Canal. The decision to reactivate High Year Tenure was motivated by personnel retention rates of more than 94%, waiting periods of more than three years for âAâ Schools for most enlisted ratings, a slowdown in enlisted advancement, and a reduction in enlisted billets during past fiscal year due to budget constraints.
Protection of the Arctic Environment High on the IMO Agenda
The IMO Subcommittee on Ship Design and Equipment (DE) has made progress in its efforts to develop international environmental and safety regulations for navigation in polar regions. For the recent session of the Subcommittee on Ship Design and Equipment held in March 2013, Denmark had, together with other Arctic coastal States, submitted a proposal for a special chapter on marine environment regulations for the Polar Code.
