Gantry Crane for Intermodal Handling Arrives in Kiel
The new rubber-tyred gantry crane (RTG) for the intermodal terminal at the Ostuferhafen has arrived in Kiel. Where the rail/ship handling was done by Reach Stackers, the gantry crane will take over and load the rail wagons in future. U.S. Navy Names Research Vessel to Honor Sally Ride
U.S. Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced the nation's newest research vessel will be named R/V Sally Ride, in honor of the former UC San Diego faculty member who was the first American female astronaut and the youngest American to fly in space. The ship is owned by the U.S. Navy, will be operated by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, and will have its home port at the Scripps Nimitz Marine Facility in Point Loma on San Diego Bay.

Aker Arctic to Design Icebreaker for Finnish Government
The Finnish Transport Agency signed a contract with Aker Arctic Technology Oy for design of a new icebreaker for the government. Aker Arctic in cooperation with ILS Oy will design the vessel and prepare the technical documents needed to hold tender for its construction in compliance with the performance requirements for the vessel, and will assist the Finnish Transport Agency in negotiations with shipyards later this autumn.
Braemar Opens Crude and Products Ship Broking Operation
Braemar Seascope said it is strengthening its ship broking activities by opening a new division within the group’s Houston offices focusing on the large crude and products tanker trades. The new operation will launch following the employment of four tanker brokers: Nelson Hebert, Clint DeAtley, Chip Kelman and John Anderson have all come across town to the Braemar office. They will be joined by ex-MJLF broker and past Tanker Pacific chartering executive, Lynne Rutherford.
Expro Enters $10 Million Full-Service Contract in Brazil
International oilfield services company Expro has been awarded a contract to provide equipment and services in support of a client’s offshore project in Latin America. Located in the Santos Basin, in Brazil, the BS-4 block encompasses two post-salt wells and one pre salt well. Expro has been contracted to provide heavy oil well testing to post-salt wells and data management services through partner company Baker Hughes, in a contract valued at more than $10 million (£6.5 million).
Signal Demands Arbitration on GLDD Design Modifications
Signal International, Inc., announced that work toward the design of an Articulated Tug/Barge Hopper Dredge for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock (GLDD) has been discontinued. Signal and GLDD entered into a contract for both the design and build of an AT/B Hopper Dredge in August 2012, with construction originally scheduled to begin in January 2013. According to Signal, the project has undergone numerous delays and construction has not started due to a series of major design changes initiated by GLDD.

Wärtsilä to Supply FSU, Shuttle Tanker, Inert Gas Systems
Wärtsilä is to supply inert gas systems for a Floating Storage Unit (FSU) on Norway's Heidrun offshore oil & gas field, and for two supporting shuttle tankers. The FSU is owned by Statoil, the Norwegian state owned energy company, and the tankers by AET Tanker Holdings, the Singapore based petroleum transportation company. All three vessels are being built by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in South Korea. The Wärtsilä contract with SHI was signed in February 2013.
