Engine Damage Knocks Ferry Out of Service
Washington State Ferry 'Walla Walla' suffers part engine meltdown in shiprepair yard putting it out of service indefinitely. A failure in one of the drive motors on the 188-car ferry, Walla Walla, has left parts of the ferry near the engine melted and charred, and the vessel is inoperable and out of service indefinitely. The incident happened while the vessel was in for routine, regularly scheduled maintenance work on Sunday, Nov.

NNS Launch US Submarine 'Minnesota'
Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding Division launches Virginia-class submarine Minnesota (SSN 783). To achieve her latest milestone, the 7,800-ton Minnesota was moved out of a construction facility into a floating dry dock using a transfer car system. The floating dry dock was submerged, and Minnesota was launched into the James River. Once in the water, tugboats moved the submarine to NNS' submarine pier, where final outfitting and testing will take place.

Kotug International will shortly be putting two new Damen Azimuth Tractor Drive Tugs 2412 into operation into the German Port of Hamburg. These tugs were ordered by Elisabeth Ltd in Malta and are being chartered by the Kotug Group. Kotug is a fast growing towage company expanding its innovative services to ports and terminals in Europe (Rotterdam, Hamburg, Bremerhaven), West-Africa and Australia. Recently Kotug started towage activities in the new German deep sea port Wilhelmshaven.

Kleven Wins Rem Offshore Construction Vessel Contract
Kleven gets contract to build it largest subsea construction vessel yet for Rem Offshore. The design is for a length of 108m and a width of 22m, with accommodation for a total of 110 persons. The ship is equipped with a 250t offshore crane that can work down to 3000m ocean depth, a 7.2m square moonpool, and 3 ROVs (2 Work, 1 Observation). The new building will be delivered in the first quarter of 2014. Kleven say they now have 14 vessels in the order book, at a value of almost NOK 7-billion.
